Congressional Black Caucus DEI Report
Congratulations to the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) on their new report, What Good Looks Like: A Corporate Accountability Report on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
I commend the CBC on recognizing the critical role employers can and must play in closing persistent racial wealth gaps. Research shows that lifetime earnings and benefits are the cause of ~75% of the racial wealth gap and that ~2/3rds of Americans work for medium and large-sized employers, demonstrating the potential impact employers can have. Not only is closing racial wealth gaps good for society, it’s also in employers’ business interest. Being a racially equitable employer helps companies attract and retain the best talent, spurs innovation, enhances decision making, and improves profitability.
Helping employers become more racially equitable and capture these business benefits is central to our wealth gap closure strategy at MLT. We’re helping over 200 leading employers take a more rigorous and effective approach to improving racial equity, including providing guidance on successfully implementing many of the best practices identified by the CBC in their report. You can read more about our work and some of our impact in our 2023 Racial Equity at Work Impact Report.
