Compatibility of Common Building Envelope Materials - Hit or Miss

Hello All,

I was talking with a new colleague earlier today and he asked about the compatibility of air barrier membranes with other common construction materials. So I shared with him our 3M Compatibility Listing document. Other manufactures also offer a similar type of document. We encourage you to request this information from your manufacture so that you can make better informed decisions.

As for 3M, our listing is updated every 6 months based on the numerous requests we have received to test various construction materials with our membranes.

The data provided in chart format allows for easy cross referencing. The first section is where the 3M Air Barrier Membrane is installed first and another material is on top of it.

The second section is where another material is installed first and a 3M Air Barrier Membrane is on top of it.

If you would like an electronic version of the full document, simply drop me a note and I will gladly send it to you.

Thanks, take care, and stay safe, Peter

P.S. Here is a snapshot of the partial listing from the 3M Compatibility Listing Document.
