Check yo'self

Check yo'self

What I've learnt from a day to day perspective working within a creative team is take note of your mental thought process via your personal energy and surrounds. Not long ago I'd been given the most constructive feedback I’ve received face to face in a very long time - ‘don’t worry about what other’s are doing, just focus and worry about what you’re doing’.

Funnily enough I’m reading it time and time again; 'The Secret', 'The Path to Least Resistance', 'Wink' . . .

In direct reference to what we’ve all experienced from time to time (I refer to other's competitiveness) it'd been something I'd felt in an environment working closely with others. Now what’s not to say that a little ambition, drive plus a hint of ego can hinder the ability to produce beautiufl artwork - well low and behold it most certinaly can.

‘Don’t worry about what other’s are doing, just focus and worry about what you’re doing’.

From personal experience this is always easier said than done. Good news! It can be changed and trust me the best results you’ll get, creatively speaking,  come from within. Your ability to produce beautiful designs is where you draw upon strength from those around who are wonderfully unique and skilled in other aspects.

As my example two exceptionally talented textile designer I have worked with show strengths in various forms which come naturally to them; stunning embroidery, precise embellishment, clean fresh prints, fast re-colouring and honestly the list could go on! So I wanted to emulate these talents - although I'm proficient in all these skills - my strengths and handwriting are different, which should be recognised in the notion that I’m unique, there’s no one else in the world who designs like I do! Which is pretty damn incredible!!!

If you know your talent, your underlying strength, the key thing that makes you buzz when you’re presented with a design brief and have the opportunity to fundamentally do the most amazing thing in the world - create! Then recongise that spark, give yourself positive gratitude and with all the inspiration at your fingertips design the most amazing artwork you can . . . plus many more to come!

One last note . . . if you love, love, love it everybody else will too.
