EY Data Analyst Interview Highlights

Role: Data Analyst Experience Level: 0-2 Years Interview Duration: 43 Minutes Round: 1 Interview Platform: Microsoft Teams

Interview Questions:

1. Introduction:

  • Tell me about yourself. Prepare a brief introduction highlighting your education, technical skills (such as SQL, Power BI), and relevant experience.

2. Project Details:

  • What are your roles and responsibilities in your current project? Explain your current job, tasks, and specific contributions to projects.
  • Explain your project in detail. Share the objectives, challenges, and solutions involved in your project. Be ready to explain how you applied data analytics techniques.

3. Power BI Concepts:

What is RLS (Row-Level Security)?

RLS is a feature in Power BI that restricts data access for certain users. It allows different users to see different data based on roles or permissions.

How can we assign user-wise permissions to the concerned team or group?

Permissions are assigned using RLS and roles. You define roles and assign users to specific roles for appropriate data access.

Explain the difference between calculated columns and measures.

  • Calculated Columns: Perform calculations row by row during data load, storing the results.
  • Measures: Perform calculations dynamically based on the context in reports, aggregating data as needed.

Difference between SUM and SUMX:

  • SUM: Adds up all values in a column.
  • SUMX: Iterates over a table and sums up the expression for each row.

What types of charts have you used in Power BI, and their usage in specific scenarios?

  • Mention different chart types such as bar, line, pie charts, and when to use them based on data trends, distributions, and insights.

Discuss AI tools available in Power BI.

  • Power BI offers AI tools like AutoML, Azure ML integration, and Cognitive Services to leverage AI-powered insights directly in reports.

Explain the relationship between columns and rows with examples (e.g., 1:1, 1:many, many:many relationships).

  • 1:1 Relationship: Each record in one table is linked to only one record in the other table.
  • 1:Many Relationship: One record in a table corresponds to multiple records in another table.
  • Many:Many Relationship: Multiple records in one table can be related to multiple records in another table.

4. SQL Questions:

3 scenario-based questions to test your SQL skills.

  • Expect to solve real-world SQL problems based on joins, aggregations, and subqueries.

5. DAX Expressions:

Solve 2 live DAX expressions for practical problems in Power BI.

  • Be ready to write and troubleshoot DAX formulas for common tasks, like filtering data or creating calculated columns.

6. Data Integration:

  • How many types of connections are available in Power BI? Answer: There are various connection types, such as DirectQuery, Import, and Live Connection, each with its use case depending on the data source.

7. Joins in SQL:

What are joins? Explain using a real-world example.

  • A join is used to combine rows from two or more tables based on a related column. Example: Joining customer information with order data to show which customer made which purchase.

Additional Notes:

  • Screen Sharing: Mandatory during the interview.

Reflections:

This interview experience provided a comprehensive assessment of Power BI, SQL, and DAX skills. It's a great reminder to prepare for both technical depth and practical problem-solving. Make sure to revise Power BI concepts and SQL queries before your interview.

Good luck to everyone preparing for an EY Data Analyst role!
