Can AI think out of the box?

Despite the super power of human mind, it still bias, and limited to its own thoughts and old experiences. As a result, generating new ideas, or thinking out of the box become challenging task.

AI/ML fans promote that this technology capable to think out of all boxes, flourishing the humanity with creative ideas, moving them to more creative life … but is this true?

To test this concept, experts ask AI/ML algorithm to control a spider-simulator that has six-feet, and try to move it with the minimum number of feet touching the grounds. It was expected that the AI will able to do so with four-feet, but for the surprise, it was able to move the spider with ZERO-feet! It simply flipped it-self and move it using elbows.

The experiment (see at 1:50):

from one-side, this is very creative idea … but from other side … this “creative” is not applicable. This experiment shade lights on the high “out-of-box” AI skills, but also, it warns that such idea could lead to “Off the cliff” ones.

Imagine a pilot in critical situation asked the plane-AI to release any items to reduce its weight … then the AI eject the pilot himself!

AI/ML has strong capability generating creative ideas … but -at the moment- it should stop in “generating the idea”, the execution must be handled by the human factor …

At the end, the line between creativity and madness is a fine line, and AI can easily bypass it!

That's a very good question, I think among all the hype we have forgotten to define what intelligence truly means and how human creativity works, current AI techniques do not seem to be getting us to AGI anytime soon. The second aspect that we seem to be missing is practical applications of what we have already developed, just bridging that gap would have a significant positive impact on how our societies evolve
