Breaking the 'New Year, New Me' Cycle

Breaking the 'New Year, New Me' Cycle

When the New Year comes it’s always “New Year, New Me” and then within weeks, it’s the same old. Is this you?

It is essential to keep yourself focused to ensure that you stay on the path you want to guide rather than fall astray and fall into the same trap each year.

This enables you to stay on the path you desire but it’s also got to be something you want to do. Something you get excited for when you wake up in the morning.

With all this combined, it allows you, like in my last article to be your true self and find goals and ventures that fit you and not some random goal you thought was ok.

What Do New Beginnings Mean?

New beginnings can be seen in many different ways and can be applied in our lives every second of the day.

You could see new beginnings as the literal Google definition (I’ll save you the hassle) “the point at which something starts. Thus, meaning new beginnings could be defined as a new start. We may all be able to relate to the hustle and bustle of the new year and all the resolutions we have chosen for ourselves.”

While that is good let's look at it from a logical and more in-depth view. Now it all depends on the circumstance, let me explain. Is what you’re seeking a career change? A habit change? A relation change? And is it for personal benefit or because you have to or you're just bored? Now each circumstance has a different meaning behind it so it would take years to write out every situation's meaning but you get my point.

Whatever it is you are seeking just make sure it’s true to you and something you can see yourself doing in 5 years.

My New Beginnings

Now I have many small and large goals for my new beginnings that I can tackle from my personal experience. My first small goal is to get through 5 books and listen to 10 podcasts. The next small goal I set for myself is for the first time in years to get in shape and improve my boxing skills. I set out to achieve this in a systematic approach to get in shape, work out and go in a calorie deficit to lose weight, and attend more boxing classes to be a better boxer, Simple right? Well not quite, of course, with the discipline and hardships it is a daunting task but I’m ready to step up to the plate. Lastly, the main goal is from a few years ago, when my confidence was at an all-time low and I never wanted to talk to anyone, See where this is going? Life is very different now, so I’ve found something true to myself, the idea that If you have the right mindset you can go from a little kid with no rich background, no special education, and nothing exceptional that no matter where you are if you have internet and a mind you can do whatever you want, and not worry about what anyone says. I’ve heard it all: you're not good enough, you can’t do that, that won’t work. Some believe these comments and shy away, but most of the time It’s because they aren’t as close to you as you think and fear you’ll overtake them in a mental and physical state. I flip this and use it to add fuel to my current desire by saying: “Ok, It won’t work? Watch it work, watch me be the “ordinary boy” from Blandford and do what you class as impossible.” So what’s my final goal you ask? Well, my final goal is to start and grow my new podcast “Ground Zero” to 500 listeners by the end of the year.

It would make little Ben proud to see who he has become and how things he once thought were impossible are now becoming reality.

Clearing It Up

There are so many goals and dreams out there financial, fitness, relationships the list goes on but what’s the common theme?

They are all just a goal or dream. Some fail and some succeed but they are all a new beginning for someone who will have good and bad times.

See my goals and your goals are no different, even though mine is to read more yours might be to write more, but each is a new beginning just with a different path, and the beauty of it is these paths at some point can align.
