Basic Concepts and Terminology of LED Displays

1. What is an LED?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. In the display industry, the term "LED" specifically refers to LED that emit visible light.

2. What is an LED Display Module?

An LED display module is the basic unit defined by its circuit and mounting structure, which has display functionality and can achieve display screen functions through simple assembly.

3. What is an LED Display?

An LED display is a screen composed of an array of LED devices, controlled in a specific manner to display content.

4. What is a Pixel?

A pixel is the smallest emitting unit of an LED display, similar in meaning to the "pixel" in a regular computer monitor.

5. What is Pixel Pitch (Dot Pitch)?

Pixel pitch (dot pitch) refers to the distance between adjacent pixels.

6. What is SMD and What is DIP?

SMD and DIP both refer to types of LED bulbs. SMD stands for Surface Mount Device, which refers to surface-mounted LED, while DIP stands for Dual In-line Package, referring to through-hole LED.

7. What is an Insert Lamp Module? What are its Advantages and Disadvantages?

An insert lamp module refers to a module made by passing the leads of a DIP-packaged LED through the PCB and soldering the leads to fill the holes with solder.

Advantages: Wide viewing angle, High brightness, Good heat dissipation.

Disadvantages: Low pixel density

8. What is a Surface Mount Module? What are its Advantages and Disadvantages?

A surface mount module, also known as SMT, involves mounting SMT-packaged LED on the surface of the PCB using a soldering process, without passing the leads through the PCB.

Advantages: Good display quality, High pixel density

Disadvantages: Insufficient brightness

How to Calculate the Size of an LED Display Proportionally

LED Display Size Calculation:

  1. If the customer provides the length and height of the site, we simply divide by the corresponding module size or cabinet size.
  2. If the customer only provides the area and specifies the desired aspect ratio of 16:9 or 4:3, the calculation method is as follows:

We use the letter "S" to represent the area.

That is: the area divided by the square root of the aspect ratio, then multiplied by the length ratio to get the length, and multiplied by the height ratio to get the height.
