Arthritis is a disorder in which the bones, cartilage in humans begin to deform and break down over time. This leads to normal bodily movements becoming very painful and difficult for arthritis patients.
The usual symptoms observed in arthritic patients are:
- Bones (especially the joints) pain a lot even at the slightest touch. They also feel very tender (soft) and appear red.
- Bones become stiff, affecting normal limb movements (especially in the morning).
- Fever, weakness, weight loss, loss of appetite.
- In severe cases, inflammation of the eyes', blurred vision has been observed which is known as uveitis.
- Some patients have also experienced symptoms of depression.Causes of arthritisThe likely causes of arthritis are as follows:
- Injury: Sometimes injury to specific joints during sports, an accident may lead to the affected joint developing arthritis in the future. But this may always not be the case.
- Gender: Women are more likely to develop arthritis compared to men.
- Obesity: Obese individuals are at a greater risk of developing arthritis.
- Family history/genes: Individuals with a family history of arthritis are at a greater risk.
- Age: Older people are at a much higher risk of developing arthritis compared to the young population.
- Alcohol and smoking: Regular smokers and alcoholics are more likely to suffer from arthritis in the future compared to those who do not smoke or drink.
