Applications Open for the PAGES Inter-Africa Mobility Research Fellowship Program 2025

Applications are currently open for the PAGES Inter-Africa Mobility Research Fellowship. This opportunity is open to African early-career scientists who study past global changes.  The goal of the program is to build knowledge of the past and promote paleoscience in Africa. If you are a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher at an African institution and you’re involved in scientific research about Africa’s past, here’s an opportunity you may consider applying for.

Applicants for the PAGES Inter-Africa Mobility Research Fellowship will have 12 months to use their fellowship once it’s awarded. That is, the deadline for taking up the fellowship is 12 months from when it was approved for them by its organisers. Universities with which PAGES coordinates this program are located in Southern, Western, Central, and Northern Africa. However, this program is open to scholars from all over the continent.

Eligibility

This program is open to persons who meet the following criteria:

  • An early career researcher in the final stages of completing their PhD thesis, or a postdoc (whether with a position designated as such or not) within 5 years of completing their doctoral program
  • Be a student or hold a paid position in their home country
  • Currently working on research topics within the research scope of PAGES
  • Demonstrate that the fellowship will last less than 2 weeks or more than 4 weeks within 12 months from the date of the award
  • Secure a confirmation letter from the host university as a precondition for the award

The Application Process

Applications should include:

  • Completed application form, containing information about the aims and objectives of the fellowship and how it relates to PAGES’ scientific scope (maximum of 1,000 words)
  • Explain the potential impact of the fellowship on your professional growth and your home institution and country
  • Project timeline and expected outcomes (not longer than 1 month)
  • Detailed budget in US dollars
  • Two letters of recommendation: one from their current academic advisor at their home institution, and another from the supervisor at the host institution
  • CV laying out major academic and professional achievements (maximum of 2 pages)
