🥥 7 tips for job seekers attending IWDK in Aarhus🥥
Job seeker or not, Internet Week Denmark (IWDK) is the place to be. You don't want to miss Denmark's leading digital festival with 100+ events. Right?
Especially, if you're a job seeker.
There are countless opportunities to get inspiration, new ideas and network.
So - you have your event calendar ready and you’re excited to get inspired and meet new people? That’s GREAT, but you can DO EVEN MORE! ;)
How? Do your homework before the event. Be prepared.
1. Check and research the companies and/or people attending.
You can see a full-list of attendees under each event: (Click on ‘See Full List’)
Also, you can check the sponsors and companies attending different events. Who's involved with the festival? Anyone who you could possibly be interested in?
2. Make a list of companies that you find interesting and could see yourself working in.
3. Don't underestimate the people/companies attending.
What I mean by this is that if a company, which you're interested in, which is not present at the event, doesn't mean that you shouldn't attend. That 'wrong' person might lead you to the 'right' person from that 'right' company. Even if talking to a person from a completely different industry, you never know who you can end up talking.
Remember, Denmark is small!
4. Reach out to the person attending the event, from that company, before the event and ask for a quick meet-up.
By doing that, you have better chances of actually getting in contact with the person, you would like. If they're at work, in their office, it might be more difficult. Catching them at an event is also less formal.
You could write them a message in Linkedin. For example:
“Hi Camilla,
I'm Greete and I'm currently looking for a job as a job consultant in Aarhus. I can see that you’re also attending the event X at IWDK. Would you be interested in chatting after the event over a cup of coffee? I would like to hear about your job at Jobcenter.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Greete”
5. Have your updated CV ready (in a physical copy or even copies), just in case.
You never know who they could pass it on to.
6. Shake the person's hand, look them in the eye, smile and be confident.
Then you’ve made a good first impression and the rest will come more naturally :)
7. Send them a follow-up message the same day.
People are busy and talk to many different people in one day. By sending the message the same day, they're more likely to remember you and it also shows that you’re pro-active.
“Hi Camilla,
It was great meeting you today at IWDK. It was interesting to hear about your career at the Jobcenter and it gave me new ideas and inspiration on how to continue my job search.
Thank you for your time. Let me know if there’s anything I can help you with.
Best regards,
Greete”
Would you add anything? Do you have a plan before you go to networking events?
