5 misconceptions about HR

u

1.HR has few responsibilities

The HR department is typically perceived as the team in charge of handling paperwork and basic administrative duties. However, HR's main objective is to optimize employee performance to support the organization's goals. It should act as a strategic partner in guiding and executing necessary changes to propel the company's progress, ultimately benefiting its financial outcomes.

2.HR operates in an isolation

HR is autonomous and doesn’t need to interact with other departments. In fact, HR cannot operate in isolation; instead, it must engage in collaborative efforts with all departments. HR closely collaborates with managers and leaders to exchange information and promote organizational growth through HR strategies.

3.HR doesn’t really listen to or take action on employee complaints

The HR department simply handles employee complaints without taking any action to address them. Yet, HR must address all complaints, including minor ones due to miscommunication. They should conduct documented investigations, actively listen to employees, and keep them informed about progress.

4.HR only acts in the company’s interest

The HR department's primary concern is only serving the company's interests. In fact, competent HR experts collaborate with employees to resolve problems and guarantee fair treatment, all while aligning with the organization's objectives. They can uphold company policies while advocating for the workforce's needs.

5.No specific expertise is required to pursue a career in HR.

HR is an accessible field that doesn't demand specialized qualifications. However, in order to pursue HR as a career, one must possess a range of specific skills, including a strong understanding of business operations, proficiency in handling data, and expertise in specific HR areas. Additionally, proficiency in advocating for employees, effective interpersonal communication, and efficient time management are essential qualities.
