2024 - A year in review

As we enter 2025, let's reflect on the achievements and milestones that marked an exceptional year for IM Efficiency in 2024. Here are the key highlights:

€2,651 Million Subsidy from the Dutch Government

IM Efficiency secured a €2,651 million subsidy from Netherlands Enterprise Agency , for for the SolarNL program. The subsidy will support us to integrate solar technologies made from Dutch solar cells directly into trailers during the production process.

End goals:

  • Equip 10.000 trailers by 2028
  • Achieve a manufacturing capacity of 100,000 trailers per year

Together, we will make more trucks love the sun.

First performance study of a solar-powered commercial truck using SolarOnTop

Full report ➡ https://lnkd.in/eFb_6Y8W

We are proud to publish the first annual performance report of a commercial truck powered by solar energy operating in Europe. The report presents the results of the SolarOnTop technology integrated into the trailer of our customer Van Rijnsbergen, a Dutch transportation company.

From July 1, 2022, to June 28, 2023, SolarOnTop powered 53% of the truck’s electrical needs with solar energy and covered 56% of the HVAC operation.

Happy customers, positive impact

We’re grateful for the trust of our customers and the positive impact we’ve made. Our SolarOnTop technology has shown significant benefits, including reduced downtime, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

IAA TRANSPORTATION

For the second time, IM Efficiency participated in the IAA TRANSPORTATION event in Hannover, Europe’s largest transport exhibition. We had many inspiring conversations and exciting discussions about making fleet operations more sustainable and efficient using solar energy. It was a pleasure to discuss and exchange insights with you about our on-board solar technology, SolarOnTop. We sincerely appreciate the numerous visits to our booth and the inspiring conversations we shared

Projects driving sustainability

SolarMoves

Article content

IM Efficiency is a partner in the SolarMoves project, an international public-private consortium dedicated to exploring the potential of solar-powered vehicles in supporting the transition to an all-electric transport system within the EU. The project involves equipping various vehicles with integrated solar panels and sensors to measure and assess solar irradiation under real-world conditions across Europe.

At IM Efficiency, we installed 27 solar sensors on a variety of trucks, including rigid trucks, electric trucks, and garbage trucks, operating both nationally and internationally. These sensors were placed on the top and sides of the vehicles. The collected data includes solar irradiance, GPS position, truck speed, and acceleration.

The goal of this research is to quantify the amount of solar energy that trucks can harness.

In 2022, IM Efficiency participated in the SHV Energy Innovation Challenge and was one of five startups selected for six pilot projects. The SolarOnTop was chosen from over 100 proposals submitted by startups and scale-ups worldwide to help SHV Energy reduce its direct CO₂ emissions at various stages of its value chain.

In partnership with Liquigas, an IVECO bulk truck was equipped with The SolarOnTop. The goal was to create a partially solar-powered vehicle to reduce co2 emissions and fuel savings.

The pilot achieved impressive results, generating 0.6 kWp and leading to an 8-10% reduction in fuel consumption while idling and a 4-6% reduction while driving.

Our family got bigger

In 2023, our team expanded as we welcomed three new members. While making trucks love the sun, we also enjoyed the sun ourselves, celebrating special moments with our team through fun activities like rowing, go-karting, dinners, and a trip to Cologne to celebrate Christmas.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Wishing you a sunny and prosperous New Year!

The IM Efficiency team.

Cool case examples and projects! And impressive that you’ve landed the large SolarNL grant!
