Our shoes are the RUIINs of the future. Sounds like a downer? Doesn't need to be. Together with PUNTOZERO - Design for Additive Manufacturing we are looking into alternative futures for footwear, in which shoes are intellegient interoperatable systems of parts. This allows hyper focus on performance, decentralisation of production and opens new economic rationals. For example building the most long-lasting, most bouncy sole, which might outlast the upper 5x times. This doesn't make sense currently. Because even if a good sneaker upper lasts 18 months but the sole is still in good shape, latestly then after 18 months you need to discard the entire shoe. With the RUIIN approach, you could change that logic, and replace the upper or what ever part over and over again. This allows easy recycling, repairs and has the potential for upgrades. Why Upgrades? Because Ai is on a fast track to find better forms for performance. The revolution for the best shoe components is coming and it will be Ai driven. Curious?
