Don't spray and pray! Get a Film Festival Plan. Early Bird Submissions. Submit to Festivals that are real Festivals. And submit to Festivals that show films like yours- don't submit horror to family fest and vice versa. Start your social media before filming and do BTS posts. Get a good Graphic Designer to design your poster and postcards. A good Fest Plan will save you time and money.

This is true; and it actually happens a lot. Filmmakers (like other members of the creative class) are so focused on making the work, they aren't stopping to take a breath to understand the market (the paying public for your work). To use an analogy here; most producers are the kinds of people who want to plan their own wedding...versus hiring a wedding planner (who does this multiple times a week/month/year for the last 25 years; really because it can be a mis-understanding of what the classic role of the producing profession is : build the team (your solution to the litany of issues you face in your business may not come down to you knowing everything; it may come down to who you pick up the phone and do business with to hire...). Again, not telling anyone that they can't plan their own wedding; but for that amount of money, you could have brought on some really great consultants and PMDs who really could help you get in shape for the market towards success. Put another way; every Olympic athlete has coaches they hire; and it's not the coaches' job to make sure you win; they're job is to get you in the best shape to give you a clear-and-honest shot to winning...

2024 has been a big one for international productions filming in Finland. Big names such as Emma Thompson, Jason Segel and Juliette Lewis are but only some of the star wattage seen on set around the country. The trend is set to continue, as more and more filmmakers discover what Finland has to offer. The budget for next year’s AV production incentive is being finalised soon.
