Thanks to the support of the Illinois yoga community, Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker has signed SB 2872 into law. This new law, Public Act 103-0764, permits school districts to provide at least 20 minutes of “relaxation activities” – specifically including yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, walking, and others – to enhance the mental and physical health of students as part of the school day. This public act could potentially create numerous opportunities for yoga professionals in the Illinois educational system as school districts implement this legislation beginning January 2025. We are currently working alongside educators, yoga professionals and key stakeholders in Illinois to assess these opportunities. If you have any questions, further input, or information regarding yoga in schools or other issues, please share it with us at yaadvocacy@yogaalliance.org.
Well done!
Great news and will there be something similar rolled out in the UK?
Finally, this is a huge breakthrough. Thank you to all those who worked on this.
Wish you succes.
Great news!!
Congrats! 🧘🏽♂️🙏🏾💙
Yes, would work if the schools actually hired yoga teachers in lieu of setting up a video for kids in the classroom! I would Absolutely Love to teach Kids Yoga IN Schools, during the day. After school is good if you can convince SS Coordinators to pay you. This doesn't include every child in the classroom though, which is what's needed.
What about California?
Congrats!
