Will you be an #OutdoorAlly?⁠ ⁠ We are proud to share the launch of the new Allyship in the Outdoors course funded by The North Face Explore Fund. ⁠ ⁠ Intended for those who work and operate in the outdoor industry including brands, organisations, coaches, instructors and volunteers, this 1-hour online course is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by people of colour when accessing the outdoors. ⁠ The BMC’s Diversity and Inclusion Manager Alexander West says, “I would encourage anyone involved in outdoor activities to complete the Allyship in the Outdoors course; in fact anyone involved in any sport should seriously consider spending half an hour interacting with the content and growing their understanding of the experiences faced by people of colour. “The BMC have been very lucky in being involved in the development of the course and value the positive impact delivered by Allyship in the Outdoors. The fulfillment derived from being a part of Rotary stems from the knowledge that their actions have positively impacted someone else's life. The individual believes that the desire to create a meaningful difference in the world is a crucial virtue to cultivate. They are constantly inspired by the dedicated individuals encountered within Rotary, witnessing the passion they invest in their roles and the tangible results they achieve. These individuals embody the ethos of the organization, embodying it in their daily lives, and in return, Rotary garners a wealth of goodwill and support. Moreover, they believe in the importance of incorporating fun into their endeavors. As Dr. Seuss aptly put it, "Fun is good." Therefore, they infuse a sense of liveliness into their club's volunteering activities, reinterpreting the "Service above Self" mantra to include enjoyment. After all, if joy is not found in their Rotary service, their commitment may wane. Contributing to their community and relishing the enjoyment that Rotary brings allows them to break out of their comfort zone. Through Rotary, they have the opportunity to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of equality among them as Rotarians. In today's fast-paced world, it is easy to overlook the significance of building community and embracing joy. If each person made a conscious effort daily to positively impact someone's life, particularly those they do not know, the world would undoubtedly be a better place. Since August, SENT Topeka has proudly served 1,671 families across 38 zip codes through the Southside Filling Station. 📌 Here’s what we’ve learned about those we serve: $17,752.30: Average household income. 21% are uninsured. 21% have less than a high school diploma or GED. Only 1% are receiving job training—an opportunity we’re determined to expand. 6% connect with other SENT services. 10% engage with services at Avondale East. 20% want to learn healthy meal preparation. 82% signed up for our newsletter to stay informed and involved. In December, we spent $0.00 on food, thanks to our incredible community partnerships. Now, we’re taking the next step to meet the needs of our neighbors. 💡 Help us expand job training opportunities through the Farm-to-Food Truck Workforce Development Program, which will provide: 🌱 Sustainable Gardening Training: Teaching apprentices to grow fresh produce with Kansas State University Shawnee County Extension. 🚚 Food Truck Operations: Offering practical, hands-on job training to prepare apprentices for employment. 🤝 Comprehensive Wraparound Support: Including case management, financial coaching, and mental health resources. This program is designed to empower high-risk individuals with the tools they need for self-sufficiency, while also strengthening our local food systems. Congratulations to our customer Keltbray who have announced they generated over £74 million in social value generated as explained in their new Social Impact Annual Report (2024) Keltbray have long been committed to adding Social Value by taking direct responsibility for delivering on their promises to consult, improve and leave a positive legacy in the communities in which they work.
