Ross Perot Jr is a world-class leader and builder. "Do you know how long it took Perot and his team to go from the idea of building an airport in North Texas to completing that airport? Three years. His team forged through city councils, the Federal Aviation Administration, the environmental review, and Congress, all in about 18 months." "When we talk about making room for innovation and free enterprise or about supporting government that encourages investment and development rather than acting as an adversary, Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport is the model." "Ross Perot's Alliance Airport has brought thousands of jobs to the north Texas region and contributed billions of dollars to the economy, but it has also helped build businesses around the country that might never have been without his investments, vision and hard work." Kudos to Kathy Crow and the Manhattan Institute for these words about his impact and to Ross, Jr. for his leadership for Dallas, Texas, and America. He's larger than life. https://lnkd.in/ewwGJx-8

While oftentimes Entrepreneurs are faced with the financial constraints of "Wearing Many Hats," the key to growth is recognition that this strategy cannot remain a constant. It is said that a "Jack of all trades is a master of none." In my experience, that generally holds true. Whether you use the Eisenhower Matrix to delegate those responsibilities or recruit specialists internally to grow your organization, you are embarking on the process of Departmentalization. How to manage it from there is another question, but let's not put the "Cart before the Horse." #Departmentalizaiton #Business #BusinessConsulting #Operations #EisenhowerMatrix #Entrepreneurs #SMBs #8FurlongConsulting https://lnkd.in/eiyBPBR9

Keir Starmer just became the PM of UK. His ascent from humble beginnings to the highest office makes makes for a great story. Starmer was born in Southwark to a toolmaker and a nurse, growing up in a modest household. His path was not without challenges—navigating the loss of his mother at a young age and balancing his education with various part-time jobs. Despite these adversities, he excelled academically, earning a place at the University of Leeds and later, Oxford. His career in law, particularly as Director of Public Prosecutions, showcased his tenacity and skill in overcoming complex legal battles and advocating for justice. One pivotal moment in Starmer's career was his role in the successful prosecution of the MPs' expenses scandal in 2009, which underscored his commitment to integrity and transparency. This experience, among others, shaped his leadership style. In the business world, Starmer's story resonates deeply. It reminds us that adversity is not a barrier but a catalyst for growth. His ability to navigate setbacks, remain focused on his goals, and lead with integrity serves as a powerful example for professionals across industries. Like Starmer, successful business leaders often emerge from difficult circumstances, using their experiences to drive innovation, build resilient teams, and foster ethical practices. In business, as in politics, it is often the challenges we face that define our greatest achievements.

Generosity: Your candle loses nothing when it lights another. Calvin Coolidge, American President, once said, "No person was ever honored for what they received. Honor has been the reward for what they gave." Said another way by John C. Maxwell, "Giving is the highest level of living." Government contractors will do well to remember this lesson as they have opportunities to help others in the federal market. Some ways you can help: • Add a small business to your team • Let a small business join your awarded contract as a subcontractor • Add a small business to your existing contract vehicle • Help a small business get their facility clearance level (FCL) How else can small businesses (and medium) help each other? John C. Maxwell is one of my leadership mentors since the late 1990s - and I've never met him. Definitely check out his books. ___________________________________ 🔥 Join 15,267 others and subscribe to our GovCon newsletter | https://lnkd.in/es6qfwgk 👀 Follow me (Neil McDonnell) on LinkedIn and hit the 🔔 on my profile to see more government contracting content like 29,137 other people do.
