New Study (!): Interventions that prevent or respond to intimate partner violence against women and violence against children: a systematic review. Key mechanisms for reducing both intimate partner violence & violence against children include: - improved communication - conflict resolution - reflection on harmful gender norms, and - awareness of the adverse consequences of IPV and VAC on children. The findings strengthen evidence in support of efforts to address IPV and VAC through coordinated prevention and response programmes.

At Pathways Counseling Services, we stand in solidarity with survivors and call for an end to these heinous crimes. 💔🙏 Sexual violence during conflict has long been considered an unfortunate consequence of war, with victims often suffering in silence. It's time to break that silence and demand change. 🗣️✊ On this day, we commemorate the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1820, which condemns sexual violence as a tactic of war and an obstacle to peacebuilding. We honor the courage of all survivors and pay tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to eradicating these crimes. 🕯️💪 At Pathways Counseling Services, we understand the devastating impact this type of violence has on individuals and communities. Our compassionate therapists are here to provide a safe space for survivors to heal, reclaim their power, and find hope for the future. 🩺💞 It's crucial that we raise awareness about sexual violence in conflict and work together to prevent these atrocities from occurring. Schools provide a unique opportunity to support young people and steer them towards positive pathways, follow on this topic here’s why early prevention should be a key focus: -Reducing Future Offending – Early support can prevent at-risk youth from engaging in criminal behavior later in life. -Addressing Root Causes – Issues such as trauma, poverty, and lack of positive role models can be tackled through school-based programs. -Creating a Culture of Safety – Promoting respect, inclusion, and emotional well-being reduces the likelihood of violence. -Providing Positive Opportunities – Schools can offer mentorship, vocational training, and extracurricular activities to keep youth engaged. -Resisting Peer Pressure – Early intervention helps students make informed choices and avoid gang involvement. The Australian Government funded White Ribbon to deliver the “Engaging Communities in Sexual Violence Primary Prevention” project. White Ribbon Australia is proud to share our learnings with the sector, contributing to the benefit and growth of everyone involved in primary prevention through Community Action Groups (CAGs). ANROWS, the Australian National Research Organisation for Women's Safety, has evaluated the White Ribbon Community Action Group model and found that: 👉Community-led approaches are proving effective in raising awareness and deepening our understanding of violence against women, including sexual violence. 👉Flexibility is Key: Prevention models must be adaptable to the unique needs and contexts of different communities. 👉Prioritise Capacity Building: education and skill development is crucial for those designing and implementing interventions. 👉Invest in primary prevention interventions: vital as a long-term strategy.
