WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities reposted this
🌟 I’m honored to share my recent article, "X-minute cities as a growing notion of sustainable urbanism: A literature review," co-authored with the incredible Professor Ayyoob Sharifi, now published in the prestigious journal Cities( SC: 11.2 IF: 6). This study explores the groundbreaking notion of X-minute cities—a vision championed by Professor Carlos Moreno —which has gained remarkable momentum, especially with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, our study uncovers key trends and thematic clusters in the growing body of research on X-minute cities. For instance: ✅ 15-minute cities: Focus on mobility and accessibility 🚶♂️🚗 ✅ 20-minute cities: Highlight socioeconomic equity and inclusion 🏘️🤝 ✅ Shared priorities across models: Walkability, food security, quality of life, and smart technologies 🥗🚶♀️💡 🔍We also identify critical gaps and propose future research directions, including implementation challenges, energy systems, AI integration, public preferences, public health outcomes, and racial and identical aspects. These insights aim to guide policymakers and urbanists in designing cities that are not only sustainable but also equitable, healthy, and resilient. A heartfelt thank you to Professor Sharifi for his invaluable authorship and mentorship 🙏 and to Professor Carlos Moreno for pioneering this transformative urban notion🌟. Publishing in Cities before starting my PhD journey feels like a meaningful step toward contributing to a better urban future.😊 📖 Read the full article here : Publisher version: https://lnkd.in/gRNnS8uC Permanent access: https://lnkd.in/grFJrS8q #Xminutecities #15minutecities #20minutecities #UrbanPlanning #Sustainability #Urbandesign #15MinuteCity #20MinuteCity #XMinuteCity #Cities #Urbanstudies #Mobility #Proximity #SmartCities #ClimateAction
Very nice paper. Never forget the notion existed LONG before it was popularised in Paris. Unfortunately much of the x-minute city work these days finds itself sucked into the branding notion of the concept rather than on the practicalities. This is somewhat driven by funding agencies looking for research that promotes x-minute cities rather than critiques. But often that is the way science is heading....
Why not Y-minute cities? It’s the WHY that’s the most important question to ask and explain, isn’t it? It’s certainly not with AI generated images but with REAL Cities and Real Places.
epic! a valuable contribution to our industry. thank you!
