📈 Here’s a startling statistic: 𝟗𝟐.𝟖% of medical device security professionals prioritize getting products to market over security. This is particularly concerning given the surge of new regulations coming into effect this year. We conducted a comprehensive survey of hundreds of medical device professionals on key topics like regulations, SBOMs, and their product security programs to reveal the state of Medical Device Security in 2024. Cybersecurity is critical for protecting healthcare systems in the United States. With the rise of cyber threats, it's more important than ever to ensure the security of patient data and medical records. Recent cyberattacks, like the one at Ascension Hospital, highlight the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures in the healthcare industry. Learn more about this incident and how healthcare systems can enhance their security by watching our YouTube video. 🎥 Watch now: https://lnkd.in/eNd7izk8 #Cybersecurity #HealthcareSecurity #DataProtection #AscensionHospital #CyberAttack #YouTubeVideo
NEW: A cyberattack on Ascension, one of the nation’s largest healthcare systems, has disabled its electronic records for monitoring patient care and other systems for ordering tests, procedures and medications, causing delays in elective procedures and diverting some emergency patients to other hospitals. These are the kinds of direct impacts to patient care that largely had been averted in the aftermath of the Change Healthcare hack. W/ Joseph Menn Dan Diamond: https://lnkd.in/eqf-T5nR

🚨 #DataBreach 🚨 On September 27, 2024, the University Medical Center (UMC) Health System in Lubbock, Texas, fell victim to a ransomware attack. As a result, the trauma center, which is the only Level 1 trauma center within a 400-mile radius in West Texas, had to divert emergency and non-emergency patients arriving via ambulance to nearby facilities temporarily. While all hospital facilities remain open, the ongoing IT disruptions are significantly affecting hospital operations. UMC's response includes working with third-party cybersecurity specialists to restore their systems. Despite these efforts, there is no set timeline for when full restoration of services will occur. This has led to some departments operating under downtime procedures and delays in non-emergency lab work and radiology services. Moreover, UMC's Physicians clinics remain open but are not functioning at their usual capacity. The ransomware attack has resulted in noticeable slowness on UMC's websites and broader operational impacts, necessitating emergency protocols to maintain patient care. Such attacks are notably destructive in the healthcare sector, disrupting critical services and incurring high costs. The incident at UMC underscores the broader risks and vulnerabilities faced by healthcare institutions globally.

Not US Based but still a significant attack on healthcare. A recent cyberattack on an unnamed French hospital compromised the medical records of approximately 750,000 patients. The attacker, known as 'nears,' claims to have accessed over 1.5 million patient records by breaching MediBoard, an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system developed by Softway Medical Group. Softway Medical Group confirmed that the breach resulted from stolen credentials used by the hospital, not from a vulnerability in their software. They emphasized that the compromised data was hosted by the hospital, not directly managed by Softway Medical Group. https://lnkd.in/eDJ-EyJp
