Our dedicated Barwon team has been hard at work, making a positive impact through community events and outreach initiatives recently. Care finder Case Manager Marissa and Area Co-ordinator Home Support – Barwon Region Susan recently exhibited at the Changing Minds and Positive Ageing Expo in Geelong. “It was a wonderful day meeting people in our local community and networking with other support services,” said Susan. Meanwhile, Care finder worker Anne and Housing Support & Outreach worker Jessica, also from Barwon, held an information session about Wintringham services at the local Ocean Grove Library. “It was a great opportunity to meet people and inform them about the My Aged Care system, Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), and Home Care Package services, and clarify what their entitlements are. We were also able to dispel any misinformation in the community about these services,” says Anne. You know, we don't really praise Community Care Peterborough enough for all they do. The Friday Focus is on them, and we're putting on our hype hats to let you know some more about this vital organization. It's been operating in the community for years and is celebrating its 60th anniversary of the Meals on Wheels program. It's not just for your trope of recently widowed men who don't know how to boil water; it serves any senior or disabled person for whom regular meal preparation is a challenge. It's the same with the driving service. It helps seniors and disabled folks stay in their homes and in their communities, but still get to vital appointments or shopping, especially in places where there's no public transit. But wait! There's more! It has an army of helpers and contacts to help out around the house. Shopping, lawn care, shoveling, post-hospital care, cleaning and more can be contracted at fair prices and with vetting and bonding done for you. Not crazy about how Keith cleaned your sidewalk? No problem. Meet Darryl. We aren't all fortunate enough to live close to our senior or disabled loved ones. Some of them are fortunate to have friends and neighbours who keep an eye out for them. Not everyone does. But with Community Care, they do. United Way of Sumner County is proud to share that Community Life Bridge is a 2024-2025 Funded Partner Agency under the Focus Area of Health. Community Life Bridge seeks to bridge the transportation gap for older adults 60+ by operating a volunteer-driven membership-based ride program called Community Life Ride (CLR). Qualified, screened volunteers provide rides to program members in order to support their independence and quality of life.
