After telecom and retail, Mukesh Ambani is now going to disrupt another sector, and that is cloud storage. But what exactly is this $13 billion dollar cloud industry all about? Well, Cloud Storage lets people and businesses store all their data, be it files, photos, or databases. And India’s public cloud market is set to contribute 8% to India’s GDP by 2026. So Ambani is going to disrupt this with his signature move. Apple charges ₹75 per month for 50 GB of iCloud storage, while Google charges ₹130 for 100 GB. But Ambani will launch Jio AI-cloud this Diwali giving 100 GB of free storage to Jio use. But Ambani’s goal isn’t just cloud storage, and that is where Jio Brain comes in. Jio Brain is Ambani’s ambitious AI initiative, and an AI model needs vast amounts of data for training. So with millions of users uploading their data to Jio’s cloud for free, Jio will suddenly have a goldmine of Indian data to build an India-specific AI model. At Ola Sankalp 2024, Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola and Krutrim, shared several updates about Krutrim, especially for developers. But the biggest news was that Krutrim Cloud will be free until Diwali this year. Additionally, the company shared that in the 6 months since Krutrim Cloud launched, it has handled around 250 billion API calls and generated 1 trillion tokens. Aggarwal also mentioned their plan to create India’s first artificial intelligence (AI) cloud in their own data centers, powered by their own Bodhi chips, expected to launch by 2026. Reliance Industries announced the Jio AI-Cloud welcome offer during the company’s 47th Annual General Meeting. This Diwali, Jio users will get up to 100 GB of free cloud storage to store and access all their photos, videos, documents and all other digital content and data at affordable prices. However, bundling of products and services with the OS ecosystem is a key challenge here. Like WhatsApp is currently backed up in iCloud and Google One. Having said, this will also result in other players like Google One and iCloud reducing their prices. Most Importantly- Is this a trend which Indian companies are adopting. Recently, Ola Cabs announced its exit from Azure Cloud to its homegrown Krutim Cloud. Additionally, it also rolled out Ola Maps counter to Google Maps.
