#WikiWEEX Did you know who was the first to introduce the topic of accessibility in the museum world? In the 1920s, John Cotton Dana was the director of the Newark Museum, a prominent museum just outside New York City that remains open today. Today, Dana is remembered as one of the first to develop significant reflections on accessibility and the sense of community that every museum should aim to promote. Among his famous quotes: “A department store, easily accessible and open at all hours, perhaps tells us more than a good art museum and all the museums we have created so far.” If you are interested in learning more about accessibility in exhibition design, don't miss our dedicated training program. The first course will focus on exhibition design, and registration is now open. 📍 Course: Progettare per le persone: allestimenti accessibili 14-16 Febraury 2025 🔗 [LINK] https://lnkd.in/dDdUCCTd - #WeExhibit #AskWeex #ArtIsInTheProcess #WEEXFormazione #TrainingSeries #Formazione #ExhibitionDesign #ExhibitDesign

As museums become more tech-savvy, they must also face the ethical questions surrounding their collections. Is it going to be done? What are your thoughts on the future of museums? Are we heading toward a more responsible and inclusive museum experience? Let’s discuss! #CaseStudy Have you ever wondered what's behind a museum renovation? We're excited to share our first Case Study on the project we've been working on since 2021 for the Rovereto Civic Museum Foundation (Fondazione Museo Civico di Rovereto). Our contribution has included staff training, a gradual reinstallation of all museum galleries, and the development of a new interpretive apparatus. It has involved various roles and skills from the We Exhibit team in the development of: ~ Exhibition Design: reinstallation of the museum's exhibition spaces and renovation of the interpretive apparatus to improve accessibility and engagement; ~ Workshops: training staff on accessibility, communication, interpretation, and evaluation issues to facilitate smoother comparison and exchange during the redesign phase. The power of small museums. “Can Supporting Small Museums Solve Larger Problems in the Museum Field? I believe they can.” So writes Alli Schell for the blog Museums and Race. With more investment, Schell argues, very small museums would have the power to transform the museum landscape by advancing racial equity, breaking down hierarchies that drive the museum field, improving working conditions and benefits for museum workers, and changing the world of grant funding for the better. “Accessing the Museum.” The call for papers for the Fall 2025 issue of Exhibition—the journal of exhibition theory and practice for museum professionals published by the American Alliance of Museums—is now open. For this issue, we reflect on 35 years since the American Disabilities Act was signed into law and seek articles that examine the many facets of accessible exhibition-making such as: the pervasiveness of ableism within museums and how to dismantle it, evolving standards for universal and/or inclusive design, the role of language or multisensory interpretive strategies in creating accessible environments, and more. Proposals are due January 6. Read about the theme “Accessing the Museum” and how to submit a proposal at: https://lnkd.in/e6EMbkQ9 #museums #exhibitions #exhibitiondesign #accessibility

At its core, collaborative curation involves curators working alongside community members, artists, and other stakeholders to develop new exhibitions. In contrast to the traditional top-down model, collaborative curation embraces participatory methods and allows for different perspectives to shape the narrative. And though it isn’t a new concept, it continues to gain traction, particularly as the role of museum curator evolves. 💡Find out how your museum might benefit from collaborative curation along with resources for the best way to go about it: https://lnkd.in/gAq88tcQ #museumexhibitions #museumcurator #exhibitiondesign #museumcommunity #museumlife #museuminnovation #museumoutreach #museumpros #museumprofessionals
