Devotion is that exquisite thread of love that tethers our heart to one another. It is a commitment of our soul rooted in the recognition that we belong together. For those navigating the torturous heartache of witnessing a loved one with Alzheimer's, it is the inspiration behind the ongoing care. We forget the importance of this principle in our life. Families can become estranged following a misunderstanding or something said in the heat of a conflict. Kahlil Gibran wisely said, "But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor". While naturally we cannot sustain our devotion through any betrayal or rupture of our fundamental rights, it is very important that we re-visit this source of bonding that can last a lifetime. As we come together with friends and family through the holidays, we might find ourselves challenged by polarizing political beliefs. It is essential to protect our alliances of love by not drifting into toxic and wounding debate. We hold the hands of those that matter when we remind ourselves who they are and why we care. Just as we cannot define each other by a disease, we must not get lost or baited by someone's mind. "Let's not talk politics" can be a crucial boundary. However, we must mean it more than just saying it. There are so many branches on the life affirming tree of devotion. When we alert ourselves about the principles of our heart before entering someone's home, we set the intention to meet in love. Amongst the most concerning places in which we drift away from devotion is our relationship to ourselves. When we entertain thoughts of shame or judgement, we abandon our alliance with self-care. Honoring our devotion to others doesn't mean neglecting what matters to us. While Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate gratitude and family, we can also allow for the grieving that may be surging during the holiday. We need not leave those we have loved outside for fear of "ruining a meal". We can remain devoted to those we miss by naming them in conversation if we wish. Let us put wood on the fire of devotion. #devotion #thanksgiving #grief #boundaries #intentions #selfcare

Has anyone ever called you “nice” or “kind” in a professional setting? Have you wondered.. what does that really mean? Is that perceived as a weakness for a leader or a sign of over-pleasing as a team player? How much “nice” or “kind” should you be, before being taken advantage of? And if so, should you continue being nice and kind or pivot to being firm and unempathetic? My Mum, despite having no formal education, taught me something invaluable from a young age - to always be nice and kind to everyone, regardless their age, status or religion. Her kindness did not apply only to people; she would care for injured animals (birds, squirrels), nursing them back to health before setting them free. She lived simply, never chasing after wealth or material things. She finds joy cooking for us, rather than dining out at lavish restaurants. She was a loving homemaker, a nurturing mother, and a faithful wife. In the workplace, being nice and kind can feel like a challenge, especially when the environment is both harsh and competitive. But if no one makes the effort to do so, what would be left? Would it not just foster toxicity and insincerity? Is that a workplace which one would thrives in? Personally, I doubt so and everyone deserves to be treated the way 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 want to be treated over how 𝐘𝐎𝐔 want to be treated. #platinumrule Mummy, as the 49th day since your passing approaches, I hope you are at peace and free from pain. No matter how challenging being nice and kind can be, your lessons will live on in me, and I will pass them down to your grandchildren. You will always live in our hearts and minds. ❤️🌈 P.S. This picture was taken at Mum’s final birthday celebration a few months ago. 😭 #Love #Memories #Nurturing #Goodhabits #DoTheRightThings #Humble #LegacyLivesOn
