Walmart’s Post

We're today celebrating the Five and Dime on the Square. We're so excited to reopen our museum. It's not just a celebration of Mr. Sam and Helen. It's a celebration of our timeless purpose. It's just so wonderful to sit in the audience and hear your gasps when you see what you see, like what you like. Some of those old exhibits coming back better than ever, new exhibits, and celebrating the fun that for generations we've been able to have here at Walmart. We grew up being involved in retailing, and then he would offer us opportunities to come and work at the store. I'm so happy that the company rebuilt that building, because the stock room was something to behold. The floor would just spring up and down. It was not maybe built to specs, or even if they had specs back then. Sam would have been proud of it, and he would have enjoyed it, and I think he would be enormously proud of what Walmart has become. But now that I'm just an old retired guy, and I've been back here a couple of times, and re-read my book, and seen what you're doing, I'm really proud to be associated with Walmart. This company is a special company. There are things about it, its purpose, its values, its culture, that I believe should stand the test of time. And as we look backwards with this museum, it's very much about also looking forward, about the future of the company, and how we're going to change and continue to grow. I hope everybody can enjoy this as part of the community and part of the Walmart story. It is about looking back, but it's also about looking ahead. And this building and this institution, I think, will be here on the Bentonville Square for certainly as long as I'm around, and hopefully a good long while after that. Go Walmart. Go Bentonville. Woo! Woo!
