We had an awesome first night of Circular Cities Week last night! It was a great turnout and an exciting conversation on framing and discussing the circular economy! A huge shout out to our panelists Margie Bell, Joan Popolo, Inge Donovan, Rachel M.K. Perlman, PhD, and Stephanie Rivera Ortiz for moderating the conversation! A big takeaway for me is culture's role in developing systems of #repair, #reuse, and sharing. These are timeliness concepts that support resource conservation, spending, and #efficiency. How do we recognize examples of these practices outside of circularity and leverage those lessons when building circular models? Thank you CIC (Cambridge Innovation Center) for hosting us in your space! We will be back tonight at 6 pm for Day 2, Driving Circularity: Legislation, Advocacy, and Incentives! Avantika M. from the City of Boston, Sylvia Muñoz Rodríguez from Ecocir, and Representative Michelle Ciccolo will be speaking. It's not too late to register! Free 🍷 and 🍺 will be served to 21+! And we have snacks and non-alcoholic options available for free, too! https://lnkd.in/evPccZrR #circularcitiesweek #circulareconomy #zerowaste #sustainability #boston #circularsystems

I’ve finally met the legend of the circular economy - William McDonough. Here are his 5 lessons for everyone in sustainability: 1. Design for the end of use - Not the end of life - We need objects of infinite utility 2. Forget the ‘net zero’ - Stop being less bad - focus on doing good 3. Offsets are scary - offseting CO2 is a dead end - let’s inset instead 4. Start with values, not targets - values -> vision -> strategy -> KPIs - not the other way around 5. It’s not hard to abate - it’s hard to stop, think and design - so let’s go ahead and do it! Which one is your favorite? We’ve met at Regeneration.VC ‘s annual event, Reassembly. Definitely a highlight of my whole week in NYC! Thanks Michael Smith for all the great work! ——— If you liked these lessons, you’ll love my free weekly newsletter. Every Saturday, I share actionable tips and success stories to master the circular economy. Subscribe to The Loop here: https://lnkd.in/eDndqPEv #circulareconomy #climatechange #sustainability
