📚 I’m currently reading David L. Roll’s new book about Harry Truman’s seemingly impossible election victory, and the daunting political challenges he faced once elected to the US Presidency, after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s sudden and unexpected death in 1945. Two things that are really striking as I read this book: 1) even though there are valid critiques that can be made of these men, their actions while in office, aspects of their political philosophy and some of their policies, etc, they were also both far more competent, disciplined, skilled and dedicated to the common good and serious governance than most other Western political leaders of our day - left or right. They were both Democrats, but, even though both men are still nostalgically referenced by current Democrat politicians, neither man would recognize what has become of their formerly morally serious and coherent party, which has now collapsed into factions riven by far left fringe ideologies or co-opted by big corporate interests. It’s quite possible that neither of these men would even be welcome in today’s Democrat Party.

It’s becoming clear that the Democratic Party has drifted far from being the ‘party of science.’ Instead of fostering open discussion and addressing real, evidence-based issues affecting Americans, it seems more focused on silencing dissenting voices and playing identity politics. While serious problems—ranging from public health crises to economic challenges—continue to impact everyday lives, these fundamental issues are often ignored. It’s not about science anymore; it’s about control and conformity. The fact that proponents of public health, like RFK Jr., feel compelled to leave the Democratic Party and even support figures like Trump is quite telling. When lifelong Democrats are finding their values and concerns unwelcome, it raises serious questions about what the party truly stands for. This conversation may be long, but it’s worth watching to see what’s really happening.

With the upcoming general election featuring candidates like Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, it’s crucial to consider the principles that will drive our nation forward. In my open letter, I discuss the importance of individual liberty, economic growth, and national security under Trump’s leadership. Trump's vice-presidential candidate, J. D. Vance, is one of the least cohesive and most right-wing senators of the Republican Party. By applying the B-Call algorithm to Senate votes, it turns out that out of the 100 senators: - Vance is the 12th most right-wing (Tuberville is the most right-wing). - Vance is the 10th least cohesive senator (Paul is the least cohesive). - Vance has a similar behavior to Daniel Sullivan (to his left) and Michael Braun (to his right). Of these indicators, the second one (y-axis) indicates how cohesive a legislator is according to their own political position (x-axis). For example, Vance shares an ideological position (x-axis) similar to Ted Cruz (13th most right-wing), but Cruz is one of the most cohesive members of the Republican Party (low on the y-axis).

I don't think I like that idea on several levels. One, you would be setting a precedent which the Democrats would use to bad effect when they're in power. But moreover, while the Vice President is constitutionally the President of the Senate, that role is normally relegated to formal occasions and as a tiebreaker vote. To actually run the Senate as Majority Leader would violate the spirit, if not the letter, of the Separation of Powers. The Vice President is not actually one of the 100 elected Senators. Would you suggest this could happen for a Vice President even if the other party had 51 or more Senators? That totally disregards the meaning of the word "majority". You can't do something just because it seems good for your short-term agenda when it does great harm to the long-term constitutional process. That's just my informed opinion. Mike Lee should know better. The Senate should choose Rand Paul to liven things up. Or maybe Ted Cruz or John Kennedy.

BRILLIANT!! This might be the BEST idea in years for how to help fix Congress! Wait for it... Vice President JD Vance as Senate Majority Leader?!?! “John Adams presided over the US Senate as Senate Majority Leader 200 years ago as Vice President of the United States. I think JD Vance should be President of the Senate and become Senate Majority Leader. Sen. Mike Lee came up with this. This is a 1AM phone call from him last night and he had me at ‘hello.’ This would COMPLETELY change the game in Washington.” I couldn't agree more. LOVE this. REPOST this everywhere! #thinblueline #lawenforcement
