This is what happens when a designer overlooks the important task of sizing the breather on a hydraulic reservoir. A construction company purchased several asphalt transporters. Shortly after they were put into service, the screw on/off return line filters started to "blow" off. According to the contractor, the manufacturer's techs could not solve the problem, so the company hired a hydraulic expert to analyze the failures. It didn't take long for the expert to figure out that the breather on the hydraulic reservoir was so grossly undersized that when the four-section telescoping cylinder lowered rapidly, it discharged such a high volume of oil into the reservoir, that the breather created sufficient resistance to cause the return line filter to blow off. This "design oversight" caused the contractor much frustration and embarrassment, because the filters usually blew off when the transporters were on their customer's site.

This helps ensure that structures are performing as expected and remain safe under various loads. 2. **Material Testing**: They are used in testing the strength and load-bearing capacity of construction materials such as concrete, steel, and timber. Pile head crushing machines it's a specialized tool designed to cut and remove the tops of concrete piles once they are installed. Acrow delivered a 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙮 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 for multiple contractors on-site, providing engineering, design, and supply services to support this landmark development: • 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Designed and supplied over 2,300 tonnes of Supercuplok scaffolding and Acrow’s modular formwork systems. • 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Engineered and supplied scaffold and formwork for the construction of 29 leaching, purification, and ferric oxide tanks. • 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: Provided scaffolding and labour to facilitate structural, mechanical, and piping works. • Supported multiple subcontractors with 𝟲𝟱𝟬+ 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟰-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Duration of Construction Activity There are a number of ways of estimating / calculating the duration of construction activities. One of the most popular being calculation based on volume (Qty) and production rate per day. For example, If the qty of work is 1000 and production rate is 50/day, the duration will be 20 days. Very simple! However, there are other factors that have to be considered, otherwise the result of calculation would be meaningless. Let’s add some scenarios to the above qty and production rate: 1- The work is reinforcement of three fire water pumps foundation and 50/day is the rate per one resource/crew/team. By assigning three crew and work in parallel, the duration will be 6.67 (7) days. 2- The work is one circuit cable. Then, with the given production rate/crew, the duration will be 20 days. Can we assign more crews and reduce the duration? 3- The work is three circuit (three FW pumps cable). One crew will take 20 days to complete the three cables. If we assign three crews, the duration will be 7 days! 4- The work is large bore Piping welding. If we assign one crew, the duration will be 20 days. If we assign 5 crews, the duration will be 4 days. Can we assign 5 crews? 5- The work is installation of steel structure. The duration will be 20 days with one crew. Can we assign more resources (manpower only) to reduce the duration? So, to calculate the duration of construction activities, there are (at least) two more factors to be considered: 1- No. of resources/crews per activity 2- Nature of the work By adding these two factors, the calculation outcome would be more accurate! If there are 2000 or more activities in the Schedule, would you be able to correctly assign Resources/Crews to all of them? If you do estimate No. of resources on every Activity, would you confidently advise the Construction Team to deploy the same number of resources that you had estimated?
