Navigating UK’s October 14th Grid Stability Challenges with Plexos Article: https://lnkd.in/eXmtacdH On October 14, 2024, the UK’s National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) activated its blackout prevention system amid unexpected demand surges and low renewable generation output. This incident highlights persistent challenges within the UK grid, specifically as the country’s power market integrates more renewable energy sources and adapts to the complexities of real-time energy balancing (New Civil Engineer, 10-23-2024, New Civil Engineer Energy). How Plexos Supports Market Participants in the UK’s Evolving Power Landscape Plexos is uniquely positioned to help utilities, traders, and other market participants navigate these challenges through advanced scenario modeling, real-time data integration, and optimization capabilities. Here’s how: Sophisticated Scenario Modeling for Grid Stress: Plexos enables utilities to simulate various grid stress scenarios, from renewable dips to demand spikes. By modeling these in advance, utilities can devise proactive responses, avoiding over-reliance on emergency systems and blackout prevention measures while maintaining grid stability. Enhanced Demand Forecasting and Dispatch Optimization: Plexos integrates real-time data from across the grid, allowing utilities to dynamically adjust dispatch strategies as grid conditions evolve. This capability is essential during peak demand or low renewable generation, helping utilities align supply with demand in real time, thus minimizing risks of outages. Price and Risk Forecasting for Traders: With Plexos’ advanced forecasting tools, traders can model demand fluctuations and anticipate market volatility under grid stress conditions. By preparing for price spikes, traders can optimize their bidding strategies and manage risks more effectively, especially during high-demand periods when grid capacity is most vulnerable. The October blackout prevention event serves as a reminder of the evolving needs of the UK’s power market. Plexos’ advanced modeling capabilities provide a foundation for market participants to adapt to these shifting conditions, helping ensure grid resilience, stability, and profitability as the UK moves closer to a renewable-driven future. I am thrilled to announce the publication of our most recent article in the Journal of Energy Storage: "Robust economic–environmental dispatch problem for BESS and PV generators in MT-HVDC systems: A MI-MPC approach." In this work, we propose a strategy using convex optimization for the dispatch of Energy Storage Systems and renewable generation systems in Multi-Terminal HVDC (MT-HVDC) systems considering uncertainties and multi-objective programming. #RenewableEnergy #EnergyStorage #Sustainability #Research
I want to share the most recent journal article worked with Mario Alejandro Useche Arteaga: Robust economic–environmental dispatch problem for BESS and PV generators in MT-HVDC systems: A MI-MPC approach

We are seeking feedback on the draft determination and accompanying explanatory statement to introduce minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for commercial ice-makers 🧊 The draft determination will form the basis of the second determination that will have higher MEPS. MEPS will be introduced in two stages to provide: ▶️ a clear, but gradual path to improving the energy efficiency of commercial icemakers ▶️ an opportunity to evaluate the initial effects of MEPS and fine-tune the approach, if necessary. A second determination, introduced at a later date, will increase the MEPS to require products sold in Australia to be achieve a higher efficiency. Have your say on the draft determination and explanatory statement by 5pm, Monday 16 September 2024 🔗 https://brnw.ch/21wLXW9
