Grateful to have heard from some great minds - Eboné Carrington, Gbenga Ogedegbe, MD, MPH, FACP, and Thomas D'Aunno -- at NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service's annual #KovnerBehrman Forum. It was great to see one of my favorite professors in action alongside one of my best friends from grad school Dennis Grishin. Some key insights: 🏥 While referring the most vulnerable patients to other agencies for #SDOH needs has value, the trusting #patientprovider relationship is key. ⚖ Health systems have to strike a balance between relying on #communitybasedorganizations and providing these services themselves, which may cause #missiondrift. 💲 Quote from Dr. Ogedegbe: "Evidence-based medicine is only as good as the resources we invest in them." 🤝 Investing in training #communityhealthworkers will be critical as we rely on them to not just strengthen relationships between the community and the health system, but also shift non-clinical tasks away from providers. 👍 Quote from moderator Lauren A Taylor: "What we decide is possible or not possible determines our managerial prescriptions."

We’re in DC today with the National Collaborative for Health Equity, talking about #racialhealthequity. More on what we see and hear soon!
President & Founder of TheCaseMade. We're on a mission to help everyday people lean into their strengths as leaders and reimagine how justice wins. Help us create the future of systems change, powered by everyday people.
The potential for policy advances on health equity that center the TRHT framework (truth, racial healing & transformation) has never been stronger – but that’s only if we can organize and make a strong case for that vision. I'll be sharing more on the Racial Runway—case-making principles for advancing racial justice—and I'm excited to join a panel of committed changemakers to discuss how they are making the case for health equity in the complex environments in which we work! Join us! Leon Andrews Avenel Joseph Tambra Raye Stevenson #casemaking National Collaborative for Health Equity TheCaseMade

Registration for the Health Justice Scholars Program is NOW OPEN! In late 2019, a conversation began in the U.S. about whether the social determinants of health should be taught in medical school. By early 2020, the pandemic revealed just how deeply health disparities shape our society, impacting communities based on race and class. In the Health Justice Scholars Program, we will take a deep dive into the lived experiences of the social determinants of health. Through a macro and micro lens, we’ll explore how these factors contribute to health disparities within our healthcare system. Each class will center the voices of advocates and activists, offering invaluable perspectives on their lived experiences and what they hope healthcare professionals will understand. This course will equip you with the knowledge to provide better care to your patients and advocate more effectively for the communities you serve. https://buff.ly/3VoNTz8 #HealthJustice #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #HealthEquity #HJSP #MedicalStudents #HealthcareAdvocacy #FutureOfHealth #AMSA"

This project is more than just a website; it's a powerful collaboration that brings together artists, writers, activists, and individuals with lived experiences to confront and address the deep-rooted health disparities caused by racism, colonialism, ableism, and other systemic inequities. The learning modules we've developed are designed to spark reflection, conversation, and, most importantly, action. 📅 Date: August 16, 2024 🕙 Time: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm 📍 Location: Donald Rix Northern Health Sciences Centre, UNBC, Prince George (Lheidli T’enneh Territory) 💻 Join in person or via Zoom Be part of this exciting journey toward a more equitable healthcare system.
