UN-GGIM: Europe’s Post

📍 On 25 March, UN-GGIM: Europe had the pleasure to chair the Eleventh Joint UN-GGIM: Europe - UNECE - ESS Meeting hosted by Eurostat, bringing together key partners to discuss the integration of statistical and geospatial information across Europe. 💬 The session opened with a presentation about the recent activities carried out by UN-GGIM: Europe in the past 12 months. We also heard valuable updates from Eurostat, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, EG-ISGI, and EFGS, each highlighting efforts to strengthen collaboration across domains and regions. 💡 Key discussions included: 🔹 Enhancing cooperation between statistical and geospatial communities 🔹 Lessons learned from the INGEST project 🔹 Developing assessment tools and fostering global coordination 🔹 Preparing the second edition of the GSGF and new work plans 🔹 Tackling persistent barriers to data integration — and the need for top-level support and shared vocabulary 🤝 As emphasized during the panel, meaningful progress starts with collaboration — through joint meetings, small pilot projects, and shared goals. Presentations can be accessed here 👇 bit.ly/4jtlbqx 📅 We now look ahead to the Twelfth Plenary Meeting in June — with renewed commitment to breaking silos and building bridges. #UNGGIMEurope #GeospatialData #StatisticalData #DataIntegration #SDGs #Eurostat #EGISGI #UNECE #EFGS

European statistical agencies are great at open geospatial data for statistical areas. UNGGIM really hasn't yielded any open data anywhere outside of Central/South America. Why is this?
