Opportunity. When I can, I take the opportunity to educate others on traditions and causes behind them. Working in a truly diverse setting, but seeing little in terms of seizing these opportunities is actually…well…exciting. Our world is fast. Everything is now, now, now…go, go, go…move, move, move. (Stole that from Daffy Duck) It is important to share meanings behind traditions, holidays, and celebrations/remembrances. Did this for the week leading up to Memorial Day. So maybe it will spark a conversation. A learning moment. A pause as we plan in and around the upcoming holiday. It IS a fast world. Not TOO fast to forget what remains important and meaningful.

With the 4th of July festivities behind us, also comes the beginning of the second half of the year. As we cross the halfway point, I want to reflect on the first half of 2024 and think about the remainder of the year, keeping the following things top of mind: 1.)  Refocus my energy on what truly matters 2.)  Use this midpoint of the year as a springboard for personal and professional growth 3.)  Reflect on how far I’ve come and celebrate those achievements 4.)  Approach the second half of the year with optimism and determination 5.)  Turn obstacles into opportunities for learning and improvement I hope you keep these in mind as you continue your journey through the year.

Thanks to everyone who has reminded me of my six year anniversary at One New Zealand. I’ve definitely got more grey hair, and I’m definitely not any more wise. I thought I would share six things that I know more now, than six years ago. 1. Prioritise your family, friends and yourself. You can’t be good at work if you’re not good at home first. 2. Surround yourself with people who have great manners, integrity and values. You spend a huge amount of time at work. Work with people that you trust and that trust you. 3. Choose an industry with good tailwinds/growth and that you love. You need a job with at least one of these elements, preferably both. 4. Back your instincts. They are almost always right. My biggest regrets are when I didn’t. 5. Base all of your big plays on customer trends that you know are going to be the same in 10 years time. E.g we know that in ten years time our customers will still want fantastic connectivity and great service, so that’s where we invest and focus. 6. Aotearoa New Zealand is the greatest country on the planet to live and work. Let’s keep it that way. Thanks again for all of the congratulatory messages. JP

2025 offers a new start and a Polish-Danish EU Presidency. Reflections on 2024 being a year with several challenges and important events at the Danish Trade Council in Poland starting with a Royal Visit and the signing of many Polish-Danish collaboration agreements and private business partnerships, helping Danish companies navigating through a year affected by war, climate crisis and geopolitical uncertainty, but also experiencing many success stories and the growth of Danish businesses at the Polish market through long-term investments and local commitment. In 2025 Poland and Denmark hold the EU-Presidency and the common theme is security. Denmark is at the forefront with many technology solutions and expertise to strenghten European security and independence. Defence, Energy, Health and Critical Infrastructure development just to mention a few areas of highly valued Polish-Danish business and political collaboration. I believe 2025 will bring this collaboration to the next level during the EU Presidency. So let us use 2025 to get the best possible start and work for a secure Europe. It has been a pleasure working with you all and the entire trade team and I are looking forward to continue our good collaboration in 2025.
