No woman over the age of 45 should take nutritional or health advice from: 1) men (any age)* 2) women under the age of 40* * the only exception is someone who has specifically trained and learned about women’s hormones, aging and menopause. They just don’t have the personal experience to deal with the hormone shift that happens in a woman’s body as we age. Men and women under 40 have no idea what it’s like to experience the hormonal shift that happens - all they know is their own experience. When women turn 40 we CAN NO LONGER follow one-size-fits-all approach diet and exercise advice because we become more sensitive to stress and insulin sensitive. The way we eat, exercise, how much we sleep and how we think about what happens to us will have a HUGE impact on if/how we gain/lose weight, or muscle, and how we feel! I’ve met far too many trainers who blame their clients for not doing what they said when it’s not the client’s fault. And I’ve met far too many women who feel like their bodies are broken or wrong because their bodies aren’t doing what they’re supposed to. It’s not your fault. You just happened to pick the wrong trainer. I can teach you how to eat, move, sleep and manage your stress so that you lose belly fat and feel good again. Peri-menopause symptoms usually begin 7-10 years before your last official menstrual cycle. This symptoms can be confusing and often diagnosed as something else. It is important to understand: 1. What are the symptoms of peri menopause? (this is not an exhaustive list) 2. How much is it affecting my quality of life? 3. Am I noticing a combination of symptoms or one in isolation? 4. What actions can I take to put myself in the best position possible to NOT have to suffer as much during these years? Research shows, the sooner you implement HRT, the more positive the outcomes are. HRT is not the only answer though, just a few recommendations that are non medicated include: * Resistance training (as your hormones begin to down regulate, muscle mass can begin to reduce, it's important for joint health and your metabolism to try and offset this as much as possible) * A balanced diet- specific nutritional protocols can be implemented to help with insulin resistance, weight gain and for overall health. * Low intensity cardio- Cardio is excellent for CV health and as a weight management tool, lower intensity cardio over HIIT training is recommended * Sleep routine- sleep quality can be poor due to hormonal imbalances but maintaining a good sleep routine (same sleep/wake time) will give you the best chance, natural supplementation such as melatonin can also help. * Mindful practices- yoga/pilates/journalling/meditation will all help with managing stress levels and slowing down your brain and body *Limiting alcohol- alcohol has been shown to metabolise slightly different in peri-menopausal woman and be extremely disruptive to sleep, it's a good idea to limit or cut out alcohol There are a number of different recommendations that can help women through this phase of their lives, every person is different and it's important it is managed on a case by case basis! I help women with lifestyle/nutrition/exercise management during this period, to help them feel heard, supported and to give them all of the tools they need to take their power back and feel like themselves again! If you are struggling with any of these symptoms, please reach out and I'd love to chat 💕 #menopauseawareness #perimenopauseawareness #femalehealth #hormonehealth #femalesupport #lifestylemanagement

Perimenopause is a period of time when a woman’s menstrual cycle becomes less predictable and eventually ceases. It's commonly experienced by women some time between the ages of 39–51 years old. Regardless of the age at which it starts, perimenopause is a transitional period, during which women may experience an increase of the following: Significant changes in menstrual cycle Headaches Joint pain & stiffness Back pain Waking up at night Night sweats Hot flashes Difficulty concentrating With this in mind, perimenopause can be an excellent time to implement lifestyle changes — like chiropractic, regular exercise, better sleep habits, relaxation techniques, and sound nutritional and herbal supplements— that can go a long way toward helping a woman feel better. Not sure where to start? At Big Beautiful Life, we help women thru this transition with Natural Functional medicine. By getting to the root cause of hormonal imbalance, Perimenopause and Menopause can be smooth as butter. Call the office today to schedule your FREE consultation.
