Thank you, 60 MINUTES for drawing attention to help raise the alarm. We need less talk and more action before it’s too late. Cognitive warfare has gone global. #Cyberattacks are increasingly successful and #ransomware payments are funding their continued operations. Kinetic warfare including EMPs and Directed Energy are now in the front-line arsenals of our adversaries. To many, it has become increasingly obvious we have been under attack from many forces meaning to do us harm. National State actors have been practicing #UnrestrictedWarfare for decades and now have gained a foothold at the gates of our most critical infrastructure. It’s no longer a matter of if, but when. We must redouble our defenses before it’s too late. I agree, we need to remain “focused on Asymmetric Threats emerging in the 21st Century - #EMP, #CyberAttacks and #CognitiveWarfare including #DirectedEnergy. Strong National Security requires our full commitment to understand, exploit and defeat these still-emerging threats that could have a profound impact on our well being. “
Cognitive Warfare Latest 60 Minutes Story today July 7! Three months ago, I Posted this report completed by 3 U.S. experts led by my longtime friend Bob McCreight focused on Cognitive Warfare. Twenty years ago I organized the first U.S. Public Hearing as Chair of the House Armed Services Science and Technology Committee focused on Asymmetric Threats emerging in the 21st Century - EMP, Cyber Attacks and Cognitive Warfare including Directed Energy. Strong National Security requires our full commitment to understand, exploit and defeat these still-emerging threats that could have a profound impact on our well being. Over 100 U.S. officials have been affected under various names including “Havana Syndrome”. Kudos to 60 Minutes for taking this message directly to the American people. Our government must exert all effort and power to understand and deny this emerging 21st Century Threat!

I have written journals and published in international journals indexed by EBSCO: Cyberwarfare has become one of the most prominent aspects of global geopolitical competition, introducing a new dimension of conflict involving states and non-state actors. Although research on the role of states in cyber warfare has been amplacious, research on the role of non-state actors is still limited. This study aims to analyze the role and impact of non-state actors in global cyber warfare. https://lnkd.in/gFUYQTyD

Allow me to share my latest publication titled, "The West Philippines Sea and the convergence of offensive cyber and disinformation activities". In this paper, I argued that the gray zone tactics employed by Beijing is part of a broader malign influence operation against the Philippines. Therefore, a coherent strategy is needed to address this threat. Many thanks to Stratbase-ADRI for publishing this paper. https://lnkd.in/gfE8FCsi

The strategic use of hybrid warfare by Russia, initially in Georgia and later in Ukraine combines political, informational, ideological, and military strategies to destabilize and potentially occupy a country. The Russian approach to hybrid warfare is not merely a set of ad hoc tactics but a well-structured, codified plan capable of adaptation to various national contexts. Russia’s engagement in Georgia in 2008 showcased early instances of these tactics, where cyber attacks coincided with military aggression, thereby crippling Georgian communication and response capabilities. During the conflict in Ukraine, the methods evolved into a more sophisticated strategy, underlining the adaptability of Russian hybrid tactics. The comprehensive nature of this approach was evident through the seamless integration of local insurgencies, economic pressure, cyber warfare, and media manipulation aimed at influencing public opinion and destabilizing the socio-political environment. Russia's interest in exerting influence over Georgia remains high, given Georgia's strategic location and its aspirations for closer ties with Western institutions like NATO and the European Union. By maintaining instability in regions like South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Russia enhances its influence over Georgian politics, hindering its integration with the West. The current political climate in Georgia is marked by internal divisions and a contentious relationship with Russian influence. The deployment of hybrid tactics could be aimed at exploiting these divisions, thereby weakening Georgia from within, including the manipulation of media to sow discord, cyber operations targeting critical infrastructure and government systems, and supporting fringe political groups to destabilize the mainstream political landscape. The strategy's adaptability is continually refined to exploit new vulnerabilities, making it a relevant tool for Russia in its efforts to control its periphery and counter Western influence. Ongoing vigilance and countermeasures are essential for Georgia to protect its sovereignty and democratic integrity against such sophisticated and evolving threats. In light of Russian capabilities, strengthening cyber defenses, combating disinformation, bolstering political unity, and deepening ties with international allies to counterbalance Russian influence, may not be sufficient. https://lnkd.in/ed4gcA_m
