Q: How do you show past, present and future in BSL? A: In BSL signs do not have ‘endings’ to show tense. Instead BSL uses signs that move through space to show time. Our world should prioritize the well-being of future generations, focusing on values like acceptance, inclusivity, and hope. Children, often untouched by the biases that affect adults, possess a natural resilience that can teach us valuable lessons if we take the time to listen. During a recent visit to my son's basketball practice, a mural at the school caught my attention, prompting a moment of reflection. Growing up, the idea of a mural celebrating diversity and inclusivity was beyond imagination. Such visual representations could have eased the challenges of self-acceptance and bullying that many of us faced for being “different”. Sharing this helpful and thought provoking framework for helping us reflect on different aspects of diversity in the context of our practice - the Zones of Practice. LGBTQIA+ affirming practice (RCSLT & UK SLT Pride Network, 2023) 3. Fostering inclusive narratives is paramount for amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups (URGs) within our society. Without such visibility, there is a risk that individuals from majority groups may overlook or discount the experiences of URGs, perpetuating a narrative of non-existence. To combat this, organizations must implement robust internal communication strategies aimed at showcasing the stories and experiences of individuals from URGs. By providing a platform for these narratives to be shared, we can challenge preconceived notions and promote a culture of inclusivity. Both conservative and liberal politicians say higher education changes in red parts of America could be a road map for the rest of the country. The incoming administration plans to implement nationwide changes to higher education, drawing inspiration from recent actions in some states, leading to challenging school climates for LGBTQ students. LGBTQ students are already more likely than their peers to experience poor mental health, bullying, and harassment.
