Another day delivering training, and what a day it’s been! Today I had the pleasure of working with a brilliant group, diving into the important topics of behaviours in the workplace. We explored equality, diversity, discrimination, and harassment, sparking some truly great conversations and valuable sharing of experiences. It’s always inspiring to see people engaging so openly and thoughtfully on these essential issues. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do. Looking forward to continuing these important discussions and driving positive change in the workplace! #Training #WorkplaceBehaviours #EqualityAndDiversity #Inclusion #ProfessionalDevelopment

It's #ConstructionInclusionWeek ! An industry that is "getting after" being more inclusive and working to attract and keep Veteran talent. Smart! This annual event is outstanding. My comment: WOW! I wonder what snap judgments are made about military Veterans who join your teams? Unfortunately, the media tends to perpetuate the narrative that most Veterans are "broken." While military service can be highly stressful, most Veterans (including combat Vets) learn to overcome their struggles and live full, productive lives - we just don't hear as much about them! With your culture and self-awareness, YOU can make a huge difference as a civilian Veteran Champion! When was the last time YOU intentionally connected with, invited and included a military Veteran in what you are doing? Getting to know them as individuals will help you redirect unconscious biases and better align your personal beliefs. Construction Inclusion Week is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I love that for at least this week, everyone is talking about and celebrating inclusion, equity, and diversity in the construction industry. How do we extend the energy we see everyday during this week into everyday of the year? I think that starts with Allyship. One of my key developmental focuses this year has been to be a better Ally... and what I've discovered is that to be a better Ally I have to do a few foundational things first, some of which are in this list titled Being an "Ally". 1) Recognize my privilege. I know this is a polarizing word for a lot of people, but the fact of the matter is we all have different advantages in life and those impact the choices we are presented with in our personal and professional lives. If other people did not have the same level of access to these advantages, then they are privileges. When we recognize the gifts we have been given, we can be grateful for them. When we recognize the luck we've had, we can start to see that not everyone has been so lucky and then we have a choice to make; Do we just acknowledge the fact that not everyone has the same advantages? Or do we do something about it? Do we make an effort to increase access for people that haven't been as "lucky" or as "advantaged" or as "privileged". What choice do you make? 2) Choose to act: Knowing isn't acting...to make change you have to do something about it. This one is straight out of the list below. "do the outer work to help change oppressive systems." Some of the advantages you have in life are systematic, which means unless we actively change them they will continue into perpetuity. Systems that remain unchanged will not achieve different results....they are perfectly built for the results they are getting. You want change? Change the system. #allyship #inclusion #constructioninclusionweek
