The philosophy of 現場 – Genba or Gemba (meaning "the real place, the place where the actual work is done") is a core component of the Toyota Production System that organizes the company's manufacturing and logistics. It is a key principle to problem-solving: if the problem exists on the factory floor, it needs to be understood and solved on the factory floor. Toyota team members around the world engage in "Genba Walks"—visits to identify areas where potential improvements might be made and to better understand their colleagues' workloads. TRI's Communications team recently had the opportunity to visit the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas plant and see the production process firsthand!
