It was only 38 months ago when the first of the NSMVs reached this construction milestone. This progress clearly demonstrates the acceleration power of the TOTE Services VCM process in US shipbuilding. Today, at the Hanwha Philly Shipyard, we celebrated the Keel Laying construction milestone of the fifth National Security Multi-Mission Vessel. Congratulations
I was able to attend this ceremony both as an employee of TOTE Services and as an Alumni representative of California Maritime Academy (now CSU Maritime Academy). The TOTE VCM team working with Hanwha Philly Shipyard was special to see. Everyone involved owns the project and their pride showed during the event. Shout out to Chris, Brandon, Cody, and the rest of the TOTE VCM for providing a real treat for myself and the future Cal Maritime Cadets in attendance! Thank you!
I’ve seen firsthand the power of the VCM process and strongly recommend that the Coast Guard and other government agencies adopt it. Watching the professionals at TOTE apply VCM has been gratifying. Having been involved in previous government shipbuilding initiatives, the benefits of VCM are clear: higher quality, improved cost control, and greater adherence to schedule.
