It’s easy to see how cities benefit from passenger rail, but how do rural communities benefit? Turns out, there are many ways: - Economic growth: passenger rail brings visitors, supports local businesses, and can revitalize communities. - Better mobility: passenger rail connects you to essential services without a long drive. - Preservation: unique landscapes and natural beauty can be enjoyed while staying preserved. At RailNation: Tucson, we’ll discuss passenger rail’s benefits for Arizona and the entire country. We’ll also bring together advocates and build the platform to advance passenger rail. Exciting times for Texas high speed rail! Texas is on the brink of a transportation revolution with its $30 billion high-speed rail project, inspired by Japan’s Shinkansen. This initiative aims to connect Dallas, Houston, and potentially Austin, reducing travel times from four hours to just 90 minutes. With Texas’ population expected to double by 2050, this infrastructure is critical to meet the growing demand for efficient transportation solutions.
Texas is on the cusp of transforming #transportation in the U.S. with its ambitious $30 billion #high-speed rail project. Inspired by Japan’s Shinkansen, the project aims to connect Dallas, Houston, and potentially Austin, drastically reducing travel times and offering a cleaner, faster, and more efficient alternative to air and car travel. The proposed high-speed rail line between Dallas and Houston promises significant benefits, including a dramatic reduction in travel time from a typical four-hour drive to just 90 minutes. This eco-friendly mode of transport is notably more energy-efficient compared to cars and planes, making it a sustainable option for travelers. Furthermore, with Texas’ population projected to double by 2050, the need for such sustainable #infrastructure will become increasingly critical to accommodate the growing demand for efficient transportation solutions. The environmental benefits of high-speed rail are clear: • Lower Emissions: Trains produce far less CO2 per passenger mile compared to cars and planes. • Reduced Traffic: By shifting travelers from highways to rails, congestion and fuel consumption decrease. • Smart Design: The project team is working to minimize its construction footprint and future-proof the system for expansions.

🚄💨 Choo-Choo-Choosing speed... Big news on the travel front: a groundbreaking $12 billion project is set to usher in America's first true high-speed rail line by 2028 - just in time for the Summer Olympics in LA. Brightline West Trains is steering this ambitious venture, laying down 218 miles of tracks mainly along Interstate 15. Imagine... zipping from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga or stopping by Victorville, then cruising straight into downtown LA. Inspired by Japan’s iconic Shinkansen trains, these bullet trains will blaze through the desert at 186 mph, cutting the typical four-hour slog to just over two hours. 🚅✨ Expect more than just speed: Wi-Fi, snacks, and easy luggage checks are all part of the package. With a projected 11 million people riding yearly, we're talking serious potential to ease those infamous I-15 jams - making your post-Vegas journey smoother than ever. Is this the future of freight, too? If passenger rail is stepping up its game, can high-speed freight be far behind? This project could be a preview of more efficient, innovative transport solutions across the U.S. #highspeedrail #innovation #transport #logistics #brightlinewest #sustainabletravel 🔗 Dive deeper into this story at AP News: https://lnkd.in/gbGkjZiZ

To extend our sustainability we need to reduce the work needed by everyone to get all the resources they need. If our planners first reduce travel needs then this transportation paradigm shift will also help greatly.
Here is an interesting article from my friend Chris McCahill at the State Smart Transportation Initiative, "Moving from LOS to VMT is more complicated than it might seem" (https://lnkd.in/gTtuxNz5). It cites our recent ITE Journal article, "VMT as a Metric of Sustainability" which describes why and how some jurisdictions are implementing vehicle travel reduction targets, which changes the way transportation agencies define transportation problems and evaluate solutions, resulting in more multimodal transportation planning. It's a shift from quantity (how fast can we go?) to quality (what is the most efficient way to meet our travel needs?). Is North America ready for that?

✨ We need more High-Speed Rail in the US! 🇺🇸 🚅 The proposed high-speed rail line between Dallas and Houston would be a decades overdue modernization of travel in Texas, offering travel time of just 90 minutes between these two major cities, normally a 4ish hour drive! Additionally, in April, Brightline Trains, the private company behind the “higher-speed” rail system between Orlando and Miami, broke ground on a true high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas and Southern California with trains that can hit 200 miles per hour. Brightline West Trains joins California High-Speed Rail, which has been under construction for nearly a decade, dogged by delays and cost overruns. That project aims to eventually link San Francisco and Los Angeles, with an initial segment in the state’s Central Valley targeted to open in the early 2030s. A big boost for California's High-Speed Rail Project comes from federal funding after President Joe Biden awarded more than $8 billion for 10 rail projects. “Suddenly, people are beginning to wake up to the fact that there is this alternative” to flying and driving, says Andy Byford, Amtrak’s Senior Vice President for High-Speed Rail Development Programs. #HighSpeedRail #ModernizeTravel #SustainableTransportation #RailRevolution #FutureOfTravel #BrightlineWest #CaliforniaHighSpeedRail #GreenTravel #USInfrastructure #PublicTransport #RailProjects #FederalFunding #EcoFriendlyTravel #TravelInnovation #TransportationReform

🚄 Thrilling developments on the horizon for US rail infrastructure! Brightline Trains West's proposed high-speed rail could revolutionize connectivity between California and Nevada. 🌉🏜️ The project plans to seamlessly integrate with California's own high-speed rail system, potentially stretching from Las Vegas through Southern California, and ultimately connecting to more northern locales like San Francisco. This would create a super-efficient travel corridor, significantly reducing road traffic and emissions and promoting greener travel alternatives. This venture is not just about connecting points A to B; it's about fostering economic growth, revitalizing communities, and shrinking the environmental footprint of our travel habits. Imagine the impact on tourism, business commuting, and even daily life for millions. As we keep an eye on this project's progress, it's worth discussing what such an infrastructure leap could mean for urban development and sustainability in the region. What are your thoughts on the potential of integrated high-speed rail systems in the US? Could this be the push other regions need to accelerate similar projects? 🤔 #HighSpeedRail #SustainableTravel #InfrastructureInnovation #Railinnovation
