A message from our CEO Mark Crea: As we approach Giving Tuesday next week, 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂. The reality is that charitable giving has declined across the nation this year. Many people simply can’t give as they once did — for so many reasons. At the same time, we are seeing an alarming rise in catastrophic hunger. In 2024, the number of people facing the most severe hunger has more than doubled. 𝗪𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. Every single day, hunger claims the lives of 6,200 children — 6,200 children who won't see tomorrow. But in moments like this, I have to remind myself, and our whole team at Feed My Starving Children, that we have a secret weapon: you. I don’t say this lightly. We know that you share our heart for feeding hungry children around the world. You’ve proven time and again that when we share an opportunity to make a difference, you step up. To ensure their health, dogs can donate up to 4 times a year and cats up to 3 times, with a minimum three-month gap between donations. Each donation appointment includes a clinical examination, and once a year, a comprehensive blood test is performed to keep your pet in top condition. Blood shortages affect millions worldwide, and recent crises, such as the ongoing wildfires in California, have only increased the demand for donations. 🩸 Did You Know? - Globally, the gap between blood demand and supply leaves approximately 30 million units unmet yearly. - In low-income countries, up to 54% of blood transfusions are given to children under 5 years old. - The California wildfires have devastated communities, causing hospitals to experience shortages as they strive to provide urgent care. Supporting Team Mum in Garissa County through the Big Give Christmas Campaign couldn’t be more urgent or impactful. Kenya currently faces one of the highest maternal mortality rates in Africa—ranking 4th highest with 594 deaths per 100,000 live births. This starkly contrasts the UN Sustainable Development Goal target of less than 70 deaths per 100,000 by 2030. Sadly, Garissa County is among the 15 high-burden regions responsible for a staggering 98.7% of maternal deaths in the country. 😔 This is not just a statistic—it’s a reality shaped by poverty, insecurity, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and historical marginalization. Mothers and babies in Garissa are facing the devastating impacts of climate change, further exacerbating these challenges.
