Joint Special Operations University’s Post

Warfighter preparedness isn’t just about physical endurance or tactical skill—it demands total resilience, including the spiritual and moral strength to endure the demands of SOF operations. Recently, SOCOM Chaplains engaged in a cutting-edge virtual reality suicide prevention program, currently being piloted at the JSOU Religious Team Orientation. SOF chaplains play a critical role in ensuring our operators stay mentally sharp and mission ready. #WarfighterReadiness #SOFStrong #ResilienceIsLethality #SpiritualFitness #MissionSuccess #JSOU #USSOCOM #SuicidePrevention #CombatEffectiveness

Enhancing Warrior Lethality: Building Resilience and Recovery for Optimal Neurological Performance

Extremely disappointing that we are ignoring the neurological injury that is the main contributing factor in suicide. Yet these “training” environments get pilots that do not produce outcomes.

Quick reflection - CRP and Craig Bryan’s work on suicide prevention seem Tue best evidence based way forward. But reflecting as a SOF spouse observing the community for 17 yrs or so - there’s a ton more technology, research and highly trained SMEs and performance optimization specialists around but the problems are more or less the same, and in some ways more intractable especially at the family level. So what are we all missing?

Resilience? For who? Higher ranking rear echelon? SOCOM needs adaptive and tiered training with messaging customized to the audience. Training for an E-8 should not be the same as training for an O-6 which should be different for an O-7 or higher. We are all one for mission but are individuals based on MOS, rank, unit, and service. It is good to start somewhere and try different things but add realistic expectations based on your audience.

Yikes

No chaplain, church, mosque or synagog can get people ready to kill each other with cold blood and assure being mentally charp and ready. You cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs.
