Today, we’re honouring the history and charm of the beloved West Highland White Terrier. Officially recognised by The Kennel Club in 1907 the breed was developed from Cairn terrier ancestry. It was the Malcolms of Poltalloch in Argyllshire who developed a white strain of Cairns in the mid 19th century. Early names for the breed were the Poltalloch terrier, and the Roseneath terrier – after a strain developed on the Duke of Argyll's Roseneath Estate. 📸 This vintage photo is from the 1953 Crufts Dog Show at OlympiaUK London, and features 16-year-old Doreen Page of Ongar, Essex, arriving with three Westies belonging to Mr. Dennis of Ongar. The 'Westie' has claimed the Crufts coveted Best in Show title three times—in 1967, 1990, and most recently, 2016—a testament to their enduring popularity and rich legacy. #BreedHistory #DogBreeds
