The incorporation of the #FuelEU Maritime Regulation into the #EEA Agreement is facing delays, making it #difficult that this process will be finalized by January 1, 2025. The #Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) has indicated that this delay will classify #Norwegian and #Icelandic ports as third-country ports in relation to FuelEU regulation from January 1, 2025, until the incorporation into the EEA Agreement is completed. Therefore, until the incorporation into the EEA Agreement is completed, the following apply: * Only 50% of the emissions will be considered for voyages where one port is in the EU and the other is either a Norwegian or Icelandic port. * For voyages where one port is outside the EU and the other is a Norwegian or Icelandic port, these should not be subject to the FuelEU Maritime Regulation. https://lnkd.in/gwdRwQmq #decarbonization #FuelEUMaritime

Signing of a Quadrilateral Agreement by the Shipping Association of Iran to Strengthen the Role of the Private Sector in the Maritime Industry The Shipping Association of Iran, with its prominent position in the maritime industry and a professional approach as a key organization, has consistently sought to empower other associations and enhance the role of the private sector in assuming government responsibilities and defending its rights. In line with this goal, a quadrilateral agreement was signed between the Shipping Association of Iran, the Iranian Marine Engineering Association, the Hormozgan Province Union of Maritime Cargo and Passenger Transport and Tourism, and the Iranian Classification Society. This agreement encompasses effective collaborations in educational, legal, human resources, and other areas, aiming to promote cooperation and improve the quality of services in the country’s private maritime sector. One of the most significant achievements of this agreement is the creation of consensus among professional, trade, scientific, and cooperative organizations for joint planning and the attainment of unified objectives. This approach is particularly crucial for enhancing the private sector's role and strengthening multilateral cooperation to support the development of the national maritime industry. 📨 Shipping Association of Iran Secretariat Email Address: info@saoi.ir ☎ +98 21 889 47656 / +98 21 889 47676 - 9 #Shipping #SAOI #Freight_forwarding #Association #Iranian_Classification_society

The Philippines has announced plans to continuously deploy vessels in the contested Sabina Shoal within the South China Sea, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). This decision follows the return of the PCG vessel, Teresa Magbanua, which had been stationed at Sabina Shoal for five months to monitor suspected small-scale land reclamation activities by China. The vessel returned for repairs and to tend to the crew's medical needs, not in response to a Chinese demand for withdrawal. PCG Spokesperson Jay Tarriela emphasized the commitment to maintain a coast guard presence at Sabina Shoal, regardless of vessel size or number. The contested area is known to China as Xianbin Reef and to the Philippines as Escoda Shoal, located west of Palawan, within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone. China's coast guard has stated its intention to continue law enforcement activities in waters it claims as under its jurisdiction, asserting its sovereignty and maritime rights. The broader tensions stem from China's claims over most of the South China Sea, which overlap with areas claimed by Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. In 2016, an international tribunal ruled against China’s expansive claims, a decision that Beijing does not recognize. #AsiaRisk #SouthChinaSea #China Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gWHCfCyZ

It is a pleasure to write an op-ed for the Serbian Port Governance Agency, discussing the importance of inland waterways for the European Transport Corridors, #WesternBalkans economic development, and EU integration. With the latest revision of the TEN-T extension network, four additional inland waterways ports in #Serbia are now part of the TEN-T network extension. Specifically, the Port of Pančevo is part of the extended TEN-T Core Network, while the Ports of Smederevo, Prahovo and Sremska Mitrovica are now part of the Comprehensive TEN-T Network extension. These ports will serve as hubs for multimodal transport, facilitating the transfer of goods between different modes of transport. Moreover, investing in port infrastructure will attract investments, create jobs, and stimulate regional development along the waterways. The FuelEU Maritime Regulation is a fundamental cornerstone of the EU strategy to support the transition towards more sustainable modes of transport and to put the EU on track for the full decarbonization of the transport sector by 2050. The Regulation permits pooling compliance balances among ships operated within the same pool and introduces various contractual issues that parties to shipping agreements and/or ship financing arrangements. #TeamSPB takes a look ➡️ https://ow.ly/6K2W50UCE5r #MaritimeRegulation | #FuelEU | #EURegulation
