The Office Group reposted this
It’s been a while since I last posted. Yes, I’ve been busy (for which I’m always grateful) but as a parent of kids fast approaching the end of full-time education, I’ve also become concerned. So first question. In the time I’ve been away from here, how many have you breathed a sigh of relief and whispered to yourself, “I’m glad it’s not me starting out now”? It's TOUGH out there. So next question, what can we do about this? I can only speak for myself but here’s my plan. After three decades creating the workplaces of tomorrow for The Office Group and Fora, I’ve decided it’s also time to do something about the workforce of tomorrow. Alongside the brand new workplaces we’re creating at Fora, I’m launching a brand new initiative. 𝗧𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿-𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲. So that when they graduate from full-time education, they feel ready for work. Next question: when do we start? 𝗜𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀. 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟳. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲. So, with the help of Fora, Related Argent and KX Recruit here’s an invitation to 100 final year A-level students. To come to Fora's brand new building in King’s Cross (our most innovative workplace yet) and try a first-of-its-kind: a combination of academic study and a glimpse into the world of work. It doesn’t matter where you’re doing your A-levels, you just have to be 18 or over. Special mention to William Ellis (my school): very excited that you’re signed up to be part of this. Over the course of each week we’ll give the students the time and space to do vital revision in a world-class ‘work environment’. We’ll even have tutors on hand to help. At the same time we’ll introduce them to the possibilities that lie ahead by giving them the opportunity to meet some of the most innovative and exciting businesses and businesspeople in London. To listen, learn and ask questions. And most of all not to be overwhelmed but to be inspired and super excited. 🥪And it’s all completely free (lunches included!) 𝗦𝗼, 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 👨👩👦👦Do you have children (or siblings) who’d like to take part? Or know someone else’s kids who might? Perhaps your business might want to get involved? 📣Or maybe you want to join our growing team of mentors and speakers keen to share their business stories? 👉Want to help? Inspiring. Full steam ahead with your next adventure
We’ve talked about this project and it’s great that you’re making it happen.Inspiring thinking Olly. Happy to mentor if my grey hairs would be of any use. Michael
Great concept Olly. Will definitely suggest to my daughter for next year and will share with wider network. Good luck.
Great initiative Olly!
Well done Olly Olsen. V happy to help! Mid way through a book encouraging young people to start a business. Will get you involved in that too!
My niece was in a high school of commerce in France. They were only told what time to start on any given day the night before. The idea was to prepare them for the real world which is totally unpredictable. I always thought it was a brilliant idea. Well done for this initiative.
What a great initiative Olly Olsen! I would love to bring a few of my colleagues from our early careers team to talk about potential career paths; whether that be an apprenticeship, internship or graduate scheme available at Softcat.
Love this. Great timing. Would you consider those in first year of a’level at all as I know people who would love to come to this
Yes, yes, YES 👏👏👏 I run a community for freelancers who have kids (Doing It For The Kids) - some of whom are teenagers, or soon to be - would love to support this in any way I can.
