Forterra has an interesting history with industrial land redevelopment. While we look to complete our next industrial sale this year and look to invest in several more, I was reminded of our last project in Mesa, AZ. Dan Markee, founder of Forterra, worked with our buyer in figuring out resolutions to obstacles that came our way. In the heart of the Scottish Highlands, a team of skilled professionals undertook a task straight out of a storybook. Their mission? To ensure the future of the Glenfinnan Viaduct - an engineering marvel and a piece of cinematic history beloved by many across the globe, especially fans of the Harry Potter series. 🚂 Instead of the typical, obtrusive scaffolding, which would disrupt the natural beauty and daily operations, they chose rope access. This solution exemplified the delicate balance between preserving heritage and embracing innovation - a principle we hold dear at Sutro. Why does this matter to us, and why should it matter to you? Rope access allowed for quick, efficient work without the heavy footprint of traditional methods. This was not just a project but a declaration of respect - for history, nature, and the community that cherishes both. Great to visit the Kier Transportation project office in Birdlip in the Cotswolds for the £500,000,000 A417 Missing Link project yesterday (note the key clamp handrail out the front). This scheme to improve the A417 Missing Link has four key objectives: ✅ Transport and safety: to reduce delays, create a free-flowing road network and improve safety along this stretch of the A417 ✅ Environment and heritage: to reduce the impact on the landscape, natural and historic environment of the Cotswolds and, where possible, enhance the surrounding environment ✅ Community and access: to reduce queuing traffic and pollution, improve access for local people to the strategic road network, and support residents and visitors’ enjoyment to the countryside ✅ Economic growth: to help boost growth and prosperity by making journeys more reliable and improving connectivity

Last week I had the opportunity to spend the day with some of the Land Consents team, looking at how we shape our future. A snapshot of some of the questions we asked ourselves: What is our utopia i.e. our vision? Using SWOT what is holding us back from achieving our vision? What are the objectives that will help us achieve our vision? How do we achieve our objectives… what’s the plan? What are our methods for evaluating the objectives and the plan? In asking these questions we were able to develop a coherent and achievable way forward.
