Degree programs in the Del E. Webb School of Construction have changed to cater to the needs of the rapidly evolving and high-paying #construction field. The curriculum now incorporates increased integration of #technology, has a greater variety of student organizations and extracurricular opportunities, and sees a larger share of #women among its students. Construction management and technology student Megan Mehas shares her thoughts on her experience with #parents of prospective #students: “I truly believe the Del E. Webb program at ASU is the best in the country. Our program receives so much support from industry professionals in the Valley, which I have experienced firsthand through my involvement in the program. “As students, we are required to complete two summer internships before graduation, which forces us to get our feet wet in the industry and start making connections with people, ensuring we gain early industry experience in hopes of securing post-graduation job offers. “ASU is lucky to be in the center of one of the fastest-growing construction markets, allowing students endless opportunities to see projects across the Valley. I think the Del E. Webb School really sets its students up for success in their construction careers.” Learn more about construction programs at construction.asu.edu 🚧 🏗️ #success #careers

I worked on a newsletter for Ohio Today about Allison M.'s visit to Ohio University to talk about the Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission's Local Government Summer Internship, as well as my personal experience as an intern this past summer. Some of the highlights of this article include what the requirements are for students to apply, the benefits of interning there, and a couple of the projects I had the pleasure to work on. Here's the link if anyone would like to read it! https://lnkd.in/ep7bDXwf

As I wait for my flight back to Los Angeles, I want to reflect on my first semester at Cal and share the key lessons I've learned. The past few months have brought unexpected challenges, but they've also been a valuable experience for personal and academic growth. Most importantly, I’ve realized that proactivity is essential for success: Academically - Finals week at Cal was something I had heard about in high school, with tales of stress and chaos. However, I found that by staying on top of assignments early, I could avoid last-minute stress. Despite some teasing from peers about “not having a life,” being proactive helped me stay focused and perform better in exams. Opportunities - Being proactive also helped me seize opportunities beyond the classroom. Early in the semester, I attended club info sessions, internship fairs, and research application events. While I didn’t succeed in every opportunity, I gained valuable exposure and experience that will help me in the future. Mentally - Procrastination has been a challenge for me in the past, but being surrounded by motivated peers at Cal pushed me to break this habit. This change in mindset has improved my mental state—by giving my best effort from the start, I can accept the outcomes without regret, knowing I gave it my all. While proactivity has influenced many areas of my life, I’ll leave it at that for now. I’m excited to continue learning and contributing to the Berkeley community in the next semester. Grateful for the lessons so far, and looking forward to what’s ahead! #EECS #UCberkeley #Engineering #StudentLife #FirstSemesterReflections

What does summer mean for you? For us, summer means relaxing, chilling out and shaking off some of the (rock) dust we collected over the past year. But for our #summerinterns, it means knuckling down and putting theory into practice. This summer, we’re fortunate to have Freddie Coleman (or Freddie as he prefers) join us as one of two summer interns from the University of Canterbury. Despite his first day being the same day we moved offices (think: moving chaos), he has reported that he’s thoroughly enjoying the learning curve he’s on. Freddie’s just completed his 2nd professional year in Chemical and Process Engineering after completing his BSc at University of Otago in Dunedin, where he calls home. After finding us using his online research skills, he was hooked on the idea that such a simple process could derive so many useful products that also happen to remove carbon. Now, he’s using his summer to flex his research and development skills in our lab. He’s counting on the experience to give him real life insight into what commercial R&D looks like, as well as fine tuning his experimental skills. In amongst his lab time, you’d find Freddie outdoors tramping or doing any sort of activity to keep fit. Supporting the next generation of changemakers is core to the values of #AspiringMaterials, so we’re stoked to have Freddie join us and use our place as his launchpad for greatness🚀. #summerinternships #nextgenscientists #futureleaders

Tier 3 university degree students are being restricted to their own syllabus, and upon this they've to maintain 85% attendance. Idk why these systems are in place. Suppose a student gets selected for a duration of 3-6 months internship in his 3rd/4th year of engineering/ any bachelor's degree, and the faculty head or management don't give permission, it's just they're just restricting a student from gaining industry exposure. If the student doesn't get selected in campus placements, the college management then pushes the blame towards students. Is the system fair towards these young students, is a big question mark #vtu #students

I’m so happy that this program exists and many congrats to the recipients. Providing funding for grad students who have found non-paid internships is a great first step to facing the reality of the lack of tenure-track (TT) positions and simply preferring an industry career. However, I’ll always take it one step further. Humanities/social sciences grad students receive among, if not, the lowest PhD stipends at Carolina. Since I’m not in the academic job market, I’m unfamiliar with the available number of TT social science professorships but my hypothesis is they are also low. My question is, how is the UNC Graduate School preparing humanities/social science grad students to find PAID internships? As a Carolina grad student, I took it upon myself to find my internship and create my own path. How can University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill continue to do more and do better for its grad students to truly grow with North Carolina and the South?
This summer, #UNC launched Bridge Beyond Carolina, a new initiative providing funding for students to pursue nonfaculty career by completing an internship outside the University that would otherwise be unpaid. According to Dean Dr. Beth Mayer-Davis, the program is a product of the Graduate School's strategic goal of “growing with North Carolina” and aligns with the school’s mission to produce highly qualified graduates who are ready to make an impact on North Carolina's workforce Discover how the program expands professional opportunities for graduate students https://unc.live/3LpeOWb
