I'm excited to share that my TEDx talk, given at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during the 2024 Planet Action Summit, is now live! Learn more about the impacts of black carbon on our environment and what we can potentially do to solve a part of the climate crisis: https://lnkd.in/gkt72sUp Big thanks are in order to Alison Sander, for inviting me as a speaker; Davey B for coaching me for weeks in the lead-up to this; Ricardo Peña for his insights and feedback on the text and on the delivery/performance aspects (as well as all the moral support!); and those able to attend in person, including Rosalinda Araujo Pena, Laura Ackard Saltzman, Laurie Kelley, Mark Ziko, Robin Ziko, Rose Fabian, and Michael Coote. Thank you to PONANT and PONANT Science for providing opportunities to do ship-based research, as well as engage with passengers on-board. Le Commandant Charcot is a state-of-the-art icebreaker, a sustainable hybrid electric ship that has significantly reduced emissions and particulates, paving the way for what is possible for travel in the future.

Wooooo! Love your slow pacing and stage presence during the talk. So awesome! Just a few of my favorite line deliveries: "Increase ice literacy", "rapid decline of sea ice revealed", "starves the apex predator of the North", "lessons from the ice", "the melting of these remote glaciers." Also love the visual aid (though if you gave it again, I wonder if you could rig up a close-up camera to display the jars on a screen when adding the ice and then slow down the ice pouring to really drive the message home).

Ulyana, it was truly a privilege and an honour to coach you for your TEDxBoston talk. Your story deeply resonated with me, reminding me of my childhood when my father shared the remarkable survival story of the Uruguayan rugby team in 1973 with my siblings and me. Fast forward to today, my son, Simrin, and I recently watched Society of the Snow on Netflix, and I found myself reflecting on your powerful insight: had the accident occurred in the present day, the outcome might have been far more tragic due to the devastating extent of glacier melt. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and the hauntingly powerful images from the accident scene. We hope to one day join you in Antarctica or Svalbard.
