TDA Telecoms’ Post

🌍 Exciting news from Rakuten Mobile! 🌍 As Japan's newest telco, Rakuten Mobile is making impressive strides in green network initiatives. Yesterday, their co-CEO Sharad Sriwastawa shared some promising updates on the commercial deployment of their RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) platform. The big takeaway? Rakuten Mobile aims for energy savings of between 15% and 20% as they tackle the ever-increasing network data traffic. Sriwastawa outlined several innovative techniques to achieve these energy efficiency gains. The approach includes shutting down MIMO radios and servers during low-use times. Additionally, implementing hibernation states for data transport network systems is on the cards. By focusing on both mobile base stations and datacentre facilities, Rakuten Mobile plans to roll out these changes through AI-enabled applications running on RIC and NIC platforms. Rakuten Mobile's proactive steps not only highlight their dedication to sustainability but also demonstrate the power of leveraging data and AI for operational efficiency. With an extensive network and a lean team of just 250 network operations staff, their model is a shining example of modern, automated network management. #Telecoms #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability
