🚀 Apologies for the delay—event season has been in full swing! I’m excited to share insights from a recent webinar where industry leaders shared their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities of technology adoption in Commercial Real Estate (CRE). Panelists from AVUITY, Savills North America, Cherre, and RealtyAds provided valuable perspectives on navigating tech adoption in the CRE space. 🎤
💡 Tyler Vermette, VP of Sales at Avuity highlighted the influx of new technologies in the market, emphasizing the importance of aligning tech solutions with a company’s success criteria and operationalizing deployments across real estate teams. Often with limited resources, leaning on experienced providers for support is key.
🌍 Soufian Alsabbagh, Director of Cross Border Advisory, Americas at Savills addressed the complexity of rolling out tech across large global organizations, such as his 40,000-person company. Achieving adoption across different cultures, age groups, and systems is a challenge, but with rising client demand for tech solutions, it's a must.
💼 Kevin Shtofman, Global Head of Innovation at Cherre focused on three core business goals: increasing revenue, reducing costs, or lowering risks. Solutions must clearly achieve at least one of these goals to gain traction, and buy-in from internal IT teams is critical to successful deployment.
💡 Matt Newville, VP of Growth from Realty Ads built on this by noting that many CRE owners are wary of new solutions due to past overpromises. For PropTech to succeed, companies need to communicate clearly how they solve real problems and add measurable value.
It was a great discussion about PropTech challenges and how startups can align with traditional CRE needs! 🎯

Thank you again to the panelists! It was a pleasure having you on the webinar and learning all of your insights from the industry.

With just under two weeks to go until CREtech London I have been immersed in prep calls this week and have been thinking a lot about who this event is for, what I hope they will be able to take away from it and how to ensure it offers them something new and fresh. Something they can actually use once they leave.
What has really struck me during my catch ups with the speakers over the past few days - speakers who are 90% real estate directors and CEOs - is that technology and innovation requirements in the sector are not just skyrocketing…they are skyrocketing at a staggering pace. A pace I’ve certainly not seen before.
And innovation, by the way, does not have to be tech-related. Just thinking differently can be a huge value driver, a point so brilliantly made by Kat Hanna in her pre-event interview on the power of being a real estate generalist. https://shorturl.at/ckoqK
The world is changing so fast and there are very few facets of the industry now that will not be impacted by societal, environmental and technical shifts. Add machine learning and AI into the mix and the need for innovative strategies, technological solutions and fresh thinkers ramps up tenfold.
This is all coming off the back of a rollercoaster few years for tech and innovation. Budgets have been cut, VC funding has plummeted, there have been casualties and there will continue to be more going forward. But more fool anyone who mistakenly sees this as a widespread slowing of innovative thought across the property industry.
The opposite is the case. At least among those companies well-placed to survive.
And that’s what CREtech London is about. We are bringing together the big names, the decision makers and the game changers from across the sector to reveal how they are making it work. How they are positioning themselves for the future - a future we can’t escape from. AI is here. Climate change is real. Social value is critical.
This will not be two days of pitches and promises but rather of action and strategy. An opportunity to see how real estate companies are diversifying for the next era. The ground beneath us is shifting and, feel free to correct me if I am wrong here, but no one really knows how best to prepare and respond. But there are those out there prepared to make changes, take risks, go first, test, trial, report, lead and inspire.

I've just submitted SquareBySquare's entry for the Proptech Association Australia's annual Proptech Awards, in the Environment category**
Late last year, while still living in the Noosa Hinterland, I got a call from my old friend, Helen Vance, who was visiting the area. I spoke with her about how I'm trying to get SquareBySquare off the ground, but it's going slower than I'd like and I wasn't having too much luck with getting investment from angel investors or traction with Climate Tech funds... she recommended I meet Peter Schravemade of the Proptech Association Australia, and I said: "But I'm building a Climate Tech business... what does Proptech have to do with it?"
She put it succinctly: "You're building a tech platform for buying property, fractionalizing property, and selling property... sounds like PropTech to me!"
And she was right... Peter understood the business better than any Climate Tech investors I had previously spoken with and recommended we apply to join the REACH Australia accelerator, which he runs for Second Century Ventures. We were successful and received our first bit of seed funding that allowed me to focus on SquareBySquare full-time and hire our first team members!
But beyond the funding, I've been blown away by the calibre of people I've come to meet in the world of property & real estate in Australia. This is a sector that seems to be moving significantly faster than any other sector in Australia, and I see solutions being built here with incredible global potential.
I won't lie: I like winning awards, but I see the real value of taking part in any competition as an opportunity to "up my game" and meet future partners who share the same attitude.

🌟 CREtech Day 1 Highlights 🌟
The second panel that caught my attention at the day 1 one CREtech London conference featured an insightful keynote discussion hosted by Emily Wright, Head of Content at CREtech, with Raj Singh from JLL Spark and Christian Ulbrich, Managing Partner of JLL. Here are the key takeaways from their thought-provoking panel:
📍 "Real estate is about long-term changes. Tech cannot be changed daily in terms of property and building perspective. Such struggle needs time." Raj Singh
📍 "Building a sustainable and innovative future in real estate requires patience, with technology playing a supporting role to long-term shifts." Raj Singh
📍 "JLL Spark is a sponge between enterprise and start-ups, leading to a win-win-win result." - acts as a bridge between established enterprises and agile startups, enabling collaboration that benefits all parties involved.
📍"We overestimated what we achieve in one year, but we underestimate what we do in 10 years." - Bill Gates quote mentioned by Raj Singh. This timeless quote reminds us that long-term vision is crucial, as progress often accelerates exponentially when given enough time.
📍"Revolution vs. Disruption: Revolution is changing the status quo completely. Disruption is cutting people out of the scheme." - Christian Ulbrich. Understanding these concepts' differences is key to creating positive, inclusive change that benefits all stakeholders.
What do you think about these perspectives?

💫 Meet Our Dynamic New Board Member, Kasper Guldager Jensen!
- With a passion for innovation and a reputation for pushing the boundaries of architecture and sustainability, Kasper, co-founder at Home.Earth, is bound to bring a fresh perspective. We're excited to welcome Kasper on our board and sat down with him to ask about his ambitions for BLOXHUB:
Q: What will be your most important role, and what ambitions do you have for our members?
A: I bring a wealth of experience translating theory into practical applications. My main objective is to ensure that our endeavors yield tangible results, not just facilitating connections but driving concrete outcomes. Moreover, I aim to foster international collaborations. Copenhagen's position holds immense interest globally, particularly in circularity within the construction sector, and we need to strengthen our global networks.
Q: What do you see as the biggest opportunities for BLOXHUB?
A: While there is immense digital potential, I strongly believe in the value of physical gatherings when it comes to fostering knowledge and innovation. Simply attending conferences or exchanging concepts isn't enough. Delving into the material and tackling concrete challenges head-on—workshop formats are thus incredibly valuable, and BLOXHUB has some strong program formats. I'm also excited about longer formats like Hackathons, which BLOXHUB recently hosted.
Q: What are you most looking forward to?
A: I'm genuinely excited about working with the board and delving into the new strategy. Everyone seems highly competent, and the mix of thinkers and practitioners is truly intriguing—that’s precisely what's needed for innovation.
Additionally, I'm eager to collaborate with members on their expertise. They represent BLOXHUB's greatest asset and the focal point of success. Building upon the skills and resources our members bring is essential. Additionally, sustainability is my passion, and it's crucial to grasp the social foundation and the planetary perspective and ensure green investments.
A warm welcome to Kasper - we look forward to the cooperation!
