NATURAL #GAS FOR #MAURITANIA AND #SENEGAL. We expect first #gas at Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (#GTA) offshore #Mauritania and #Senegal in second half of 2024. By the end of 2024, we expect to #grow #production to around 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. As part of this growth, we expect #gas to increase from about 10% of overall production to around 25%. #GTA will produce #LNG for export and make gas available for domestic use. This #gas has negligible carbon dioxide and minimal impurities, which reduces the need for processing ahead of transportation and liquefaction. In addition, Kosmos Energy is working to develop #Yakaar-#Teranga offshore #Senegal, one of the largest gas discoveries in recent years. We believe this gas field holds around 25 trillion cubic feet of advantaged gas-in-place, which has similarly beneficial characteristics to the #gas at #GTA. Kosmos Energy assumed operatorship of Yakaar-Teranga in 2023. We are working with the national oil company on an innovative development concept that prioritizes cost-competitive gas to the rapidly growing domestic market, combined with an offshore LNG facility targeting exports into international markets. #Renewable energy now represents about 30% of #Senegal’s power generation capacity with the aim to move to 40% by 2030. Natural #gas can help achieve this goal by providing flexible baseload power, #facilitating #integration of variable #renewable energy #sources into the grid. A cleaner and more diversified energy mix will be required to meet the demands of a young and growing population while the country decarbonizes at the same time. Kosmos Energy aims to be a part of the solution by providing #domestic #gas to #displace #imported heavy #fuel #oil.

Since wind turbines have a lifespan of 30 years, we need to think about how to effectively reuse their components during decommissioning. Circular thinking goes beyond recycling; it is about using fewer resources, avoiding certain materials and redesigning existing ones. Collaboration and innovation are key to promoting circularity and creating a more sustainable future for wind energy. We have the technical expertise to design wind farms, but for innovative perspectives we are looking for the creative brainpower and input of sparring partners who are given every freedom to come up with inspiring ideas we would not have come up with ourselves. In the What if Lab, Vattenfall works with partner Dutch Design Week and various experts on solutions to make wind turbines with a sustainable life cycle. Circularity is central to this. #circularity #RenewableEnergy

Ports as key enablers in the energy transition The Belgium-Norway Energy Summit takes place at the Oslo Opera House today. The summit is part of the Belgian Economic Mission to the Kingdom of Norway (June 16-19). The Belgian delegation is presided over by HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium. Today’s event focused on industrial decarbonization and renewable energy. Ingvar M. Mathisen (CEO, Port of Oslo & President Norwegian Ports) participated in a panel debate, with colleagues Daan Schalck (CEO, North Sea Port) and Jacques Vandermeiren (CEO, Port of Antwerp-Bruges). The role of ports has changed dramatically over the last decades. While historical activities involved transport, logistics or fishery - ports have taken a more central role in the industrial ecosystem. Ingvar M. Mathisen and his colleagues were asked to shed some light on their respective port strategies in this evolution. - Port of Oslo has indeed evolved significantly over the years, aligning with the broader changes in the role of ports globally. Port of Oslo has evolved from being basically a traditionally landlord port, to work much more closely with our customers in order to enhance and co develop their business – because our cargo growth goals can only be achieved through our customers success, said Mathisen. Port of Oslo shall have a 30% growth in cargo throughput with 85% reduction in GHG emissions on 50% of the historical port areas. - Simultaneously, expanding in capacity and becoming more environmentally friendly and shrinking in size, it’s an extremely motivating time for us. Because although we are a small port in the big world, the fact that we are ahead of most other ports - with regards to the green transition – is something our owner City of Oslo’s Vice Mayor of Culture and Business, our Board of Directors and my very dedicated staff find very encouraging, Mathisen said. Port of Oslo’s vision is to develop the world’s most efficient and environmentally friendly urban port, focusing on the interaction between the city and port, rationalizing port operations and use of land area. - The port has become an integral part of the city's identity, and its commitment to sustainability has made it a desirable place to live and work, said Mathisen, CEO Port of Oslo & President Norwegian Ports at the summit.
